  • Sad news.

One of the great football writers and authors. Arguably the best of my lifetime and he maintained his high standards throughout a long life.

    RIP Brian.
  • Really sad. One of the greatest football writers. Used to avidly read World Soccer magazine and most other titles and articles he put his name too. RIP Brian.
  • Sad news ..An Icon of football journalism RIP
  • Great writer.  Only reported on us occasionally, and his match reports were a class apart.

Proper old school Fleet Street legend. Brian was unusual among the name sportswriters in the 90s and 00s in that he was always happy to chat to the locals in the press room. Possibly the clique avoided him, but he was a giant: Sad news.
  • Sad news indeed. A legend of sports journalism. The first footballl book I ever read was his "History of the World Cup". RIP
