Didn’t they once upon a time introduce the public vote because the jury vote was too political? Makes a mockery of the whole thing though suppose it has always been a farce!
Normally watch it but been out tonight. Can’t believe the UK entry got 0 from the public vote. If it’s political how did Israel get any votes. As for the winner, Austria, why am I not surprised a crap entry won it. Think I might actually give it a swerve next year too.
The UK song was just not very good, it was all over the place and still didn’t go anywhere, nothing political if you rock up with a song written by committee, and was left on the cutting floor of a West end musical.
The girls were good considering the dog they were trying to sell
Got to remember we've not long hosted it ourselves, Sam Ryder deserved to win, but equally 2nd place isn't to be sniffed at. So its clear that if we put the right effort into it, we do stand a chance of winning again in the future.
However because we did host it on behalf of Ukraine, I imagine it'll be a while before we take it seriously again, because of the cost involved.
Just such a confusing set of televote results , okay 0 for the UK was expected the song just wasn't the type of thing that was going to work with the public but the juries were always going to appreciate the vocals . Switzerland 0 was completely bizarre and unexpected as was Sweden falling short as the bookies overwhelming favourite.
Does feel like the BBC need to wrestle control away from sending stuff that Radio 2 can play to death for 3 months and is super radio playlist friendly but I can't see that happening as long as Scott Mills is involved.
The Radio 2 thing is a problem, the other acts are being played on their Radio 1 equivalent, where we aiming for peak boomer audience that doesn’t watch.
Sam Ryder gets played on Radio 1, it’s not that hard
What makes me laugh is all the Europeans hating on the UK are all listening to British global superstars on their playlists.
I don’t really think Europeans hate the U.K., our song was just rubbish. A couple of years ago we almost won it with a much better song, suggests to me it’s more about the quality of entry we send and less about perceived prejudice against us.

For me Radio 2 is the main problem with it all. Feels like as long as they're the focal point it's always going to be an uphill struggle unless you find a Sam Ryder level talent who is the complete package. They'll always want the middle of the road radio friendly song they can play on constant rotation from the beginning of March , Scott Mills will hype it up like it's the best UK entry in years etc.
Would love to see what would happen with Radio 1s involvement.

There is prejudice to overcome, but I agree a good song can do that as we saw with Sam Ryder's effort, which would have won in any other year imo.
With 27 songs to vote for, it came as no surprise to me that ours wasn't considered one of the best eleven by the voting public. 'What the hell just happened' getting nil was exactly what I expected to happen from the moment I first heard it. I was just surprised so many juries thought it vote worthy.
Switzerland got nil making the mistake I think we often make, entering a song that doesn't have a stand out attention grabbing x factor. Ours did stand out this year, but not in a good way imo.

But was it the joint worst song in the competition? Only two entries got 0 points from the public vote. Even the really really bad songs got public votes.
Yet for two years running we've got nish. Seems to be too much of a coincidence really not to think that national bias may have played at least some part of a role.

An alternative way of looking at it, which is true. None of the countries that voted ranked it in their top eleven. Not as hard to believe for me as I wouldn't have said it was in mine.

I think once you start considering degrees of terribleness the argument that it’s prejudice costing us goes out the window!

We would still get outvoted by some kind of weird shite but be good for the lols
The ones who really got robbed were Iceland. Absolute banger and it's almost finished last
