Hamstring blow for Jacko ( Posted on: Sun 20 Nov 2011
Gary Haines reports
Johnnie Jackson faces a struggle for fitness ahead of the League One
summit meeting with Huddersfield Town, according to Chris Powell. The Addicks manager confirmed his skipper had picked up a hamstring
injury during Saturday's 1-0 win against Brentford and will know more
after he has a scan on Monday.Jackson fell awkwardly while stretching to retrieve the ball around
15 minutes from time at Griffin Park, with new loan signing Hogan
Ephraim coming on for his debut in his place."Obviously, he's not very good," said Chris. "It's very early to
predict, but when a hamstring goes, you are never back within a few
days, that's for certain."He will have a scan on Monday and then we will go from there.
"It's one of the reasons that I brought in cover on the left side
because it's one area I felt we definitely needed to strengthen."So if John doesn't make it next Monday, then obviously I have a
left-sider of Premiership quality to come in for a big game, but a game
I'm sure he will be ready for." Ephraim, snapped up until January 3rd from Queens Park Rangers, now
has an opportunity to shine in South-East London says Powell.
And after his 14-minute cameo across the capital, Powell has not
ruled out making his capture a little longer than the six weeks it
currently stands at."Maybe, but it's very early," Chris said, reacting to the question of
longevity. "He's settled in very well and of course it's about
game-time and seeing him expressing himself within our team and joining
in with our team ethic."He's done that already, and he did today [against Brentford]. He got
on the field in difficult circumstances and played his part, so that's
good."Of course, we will see what he's thinking, and what QPR are
thinking, after six weeks. It's a chance for him now to get some
game-time and really express what he showed at QPR last season."He's a good talent and it will be good to see him in a red shirt.
His chance may come quite soon now, so we are going to make sure he is
ready and fits in, knows how we play and expresses himself."Saturday was actually a tale of three wingers, and as well as the
injury to Jackson and the debut of Ephraim, there was also a fine
display on the right from Danny Green. The wideman set up the decisive goal 20 minutes into the second
period, delivering low from the right for top scorer Bradley
Wright-Phillips to turn home."He played well," said Powell when quizzed about Green. "He's a player who we know has got very good qualities.
"It's been a bit stop-start for him, and I think like most players if
you get a bit of a run in the team and you start to show what you are
good at, then you can flourish, and he is beginning to do that."It was a terrific ball in, a Premiership quality ball in, and Danny
Hollands nearly got on it, but the master marksman Bradley got on in the
end. If he gets a ball in of that quality he will gobble it up."0 -
Happend right in front of me..he looked well choked, almost as if he knew it wasn't a regular run of the mill knock.
You never know though, it might not be a hammy...it seemed quite high up and round to the side (on his upper outside thigh) for it to be a hammy, they are usually right in the middle aren't they........though I suppose there's variations to it?
Fingers crossed is all I can say.

He said on Twitter yesterday that he had done his hamstring. He also confimed he is due to have a scan on Monday. Just hope it isn't torn as that will be 6-8 weeks.0

If he does not make it who would be captain?0
-
Taylor took the armband yesterday when jacko went off, so i'd assume it would be him0
-
Taylor is the vice-captain.0

Not after the Notts County incident!

Whats happend to quoting? The box comes up in a separate window and no longer separates the quote and what you're typing.Anyone else got this?0
-
Don't think Yann will want to take them, should be interesting at the training ground this week then as the prospective penalty takers are put through their paces.
0 -
Green will take them if he is on the pitch.0
-
BWP's pen against notts county last season was terrible and we all know the history off Kermigant and his penalty taking. I would hope it would be Green or Hollands to take them if Jackson is out.0
-
I reckon Wiggins could take a decent pen.0
-
Green strikes a ball ever so sweetly.0
-
Is everyone agreed that Hogan should play in place of JJ then ?0

I have no idea if he is any good, but one thing I am certain of, if Andy Hughes is designated penalty taker he will practice about five hours every day after training!0
-
I would like to see Evina given his chance .He has looked really good going forward.0
-
Evina might be solid. We need to balance the midfield and maybe two wingers might mean we are weakened in the middle... Maybe bring on wagstaff who offers more defensively0
-
hate to say it but anyone remember what happened last year when jackson was out of our team......hope it doesnt repeat itself0
-
Hope JJ injury isn't to serious we would miss him alot.Fingers crossed.0

Add fortune telling and soothsaying to Powell's many other attributes. How DID he know we'd need a left sided replacement so soon? ... That is of course if Jackson is not able to turn out on Monday week. I think he'll be out there and even if he's not 100%, he'll be risked as he is so important to the team0

Isn't evina a left back by trade who can double up as a wide midfielder?0 -
JJ is the heart of the team, but thank god we have a team, and hope Ephraim can step up to the challenge, sooner than expected, for the biggest game of the season.0
-
Wouldn't be surprised if we got another centre mid in on loan before next week.0
-
epriham is more than good enough to cover for jj. he did play in the premiership this year remember. doubt it'll be two serious if he was ok to walk off. just fingers crossed.0
