Sports Personality Of The Year

  • If cycling isn't a sport then what the hell is golf?? Hitting a small white ball with a stick while enjoying a gentle stroll !! COME ON !!
Hate it when people say this. It's not a physically strenuous sport no, but its mentally strenuous. If you get into the wrong mindset it's incredibly hard to get a decent round in, it's all about controlling your head. That's why one person doesn't constantly win every title. Obviously a player can get in a good place and win a couple of titles in a year, but no-one wipes everyone out all the time. Also, there's a lot of skill involved as well, you'd be surprised how hard it is to get that small white ball consistently going in the right direction. Think it's a very under-rated sport. Although the f****** stupid clothes you have to wear doesn't help its image i must say ...

Great to see the runner up say he was out on the piss for 24 hours, then also also admit that he was very overweight/unfit!

Great example to all kids that.

    Darren Clarke.

I've no quibble with Cavendish winning it or any of the top 3 nominations. They all reached a (the) pinnacle of their sport during 2011 so are worthy contenders in my book.

he can do that because he is not a sportsman
  • Cavendish deserved to win, happy he did as I voted for him.
  • Fully deserved winner!! Who else on that list could be described at THE BEST OF ALL TIME at what they do! And saying cycling isn't a sport is ridiculous, I would be dead riding one stage of The Tour De France!

No one before Luke Donald this year has topped the PGA and European money lists in the same year

But Luke Donald hasn't won a major this year, so shouldn't be considered
  • What Cav has no personality?

The way he has grown from an arrogant over-confident whipper-snapper to a contrite and humble sporting superstar would make a novel in its own right. Then there's the immensity of what he has achieved this year.

For those who don't think cycling is sport, and a team game at that, they only need to do a little bit of homework. Once you get some idea about what these teams have to do to get one of their guys to win a sprint,a stage or even a whole tour you begin to realize that cycling's not just a matter of getting your leg over and pressing the balls of your feet on the pedals. There's a tactical minefield minefield to contend with that makes Formula One look like a ride in the park.

    Well done Cav.

So very true Hungaro and many thanks for pointing it out.  Sorry if something appears to have gone wrong in the copying.
