Mine is a slightly different angle. My Dad died at 33 when I was 11 and a friendly neighbour offered to take me to Charlton each week, back in '64 and I was hooked. I found out later that my Dad was actually a Millwall fan (It doesn't make him a bad person) and had he lived I may well have been supporting a different team.
Here's thanks to whoever got each and every one of us hooked on CAFC, whether they are still with us, or looking down from somewhere else.
  • I have not smiled much in the past 10 days since my Mum passed away but I have been grinning like a Cheshire cat for the past 24 hours. I know that Mum would be so pleased to see me smiling again.

I cried when we scored, I cried when it was full time, even more when wendies were at full time and then everytime since when I see the words 'Charlton Are Promoted', and then again reading this thread.

So much pain over the last few years watching a club I have grown up loving, falling to bits. That the sheer relief of things turning around is overwhelming, with CP making it happen and breaking so many records along the way it just adds to the joy. I will be a mess on 5th May.

I'm sure most people at the valley will be a mess on the 5th in more ways than one!

Know how you feel gravesend. Had my dad's funeral on Tuesday so not much to smile about lately. He would have been delighted.

I think I was allowed to, the day we got relegated to this poxy league was the anniversary of my nan's death so yesterday was a relief as well as slighlty emotional (bar like 4 days)

My dad died the day our relegation to this league was confirmed against Blackpool at The Valley so I missed it.

He would have been very happy to see us back and one of my sisters, whom takes little or no interest in football as a general rule, texted her congratulations saying just that.

The last two days (threads, and posts and tweets and all the rest) have reminded me...again...of just what a special club this is.
