Away game train booking dates

edited June 2012 in Match Day Travel
Afternoon all,

In a bid not to get ripped off on train tickets, as I frequently did last season, and bearing in mind @Elfsborg_Addicks excellent advice on train tickets I’ve built myself a little calendar in Excel of when the train tickets for each away game should go on sale (12 weeks before is the general rule). I turned it into a .CSV file which you can import straight into your Outlook calendar and it will pop up 12 weeks before each away fixture to remind you to get your train tickets booked.

For some reason I don’t seem to be able to sign in from my laptop (writing this on my iPhone) but I’ve sent the file across to my brother who will upload the .csv file shortly.

If you’ve never used a .csv file to import calendar dates into your Outlook calendar it’s dead simple (below is for Outlook 2007 but other versions should be broadly the same);

Simply save the file to your hard drive – don’t open, go to your calendar screen, click “File”, then “Import and Export”, then Import from another programme and file, then Comma Separated Values (Windows), browse and find your saved file and “allow duplicates to be created” then click next, select Calendar and then “finish”.

If all has gone well you should now have a calendar entry for 12 weeks before each game to remind you to sort yourself out and get the train tickets booked. Hopefully this will save you a few bob over the season.

If you don’t use Outlook, below is a list of the dates –

  • nice one mate hopefully improve numbers
  • Absolutely brilliant, thank you very much for doing this! Look forward to getting it uploaded! Might book my Forest tickets and all now!
  • bloody good idea you've had there.
  • No idea where my brother is, if someone PM's me their e-mail address I'll send them the file to upload ?
  • Apparently you cant upload .csv files to the site (?) so if anyone wants the calendar dates just PM me your e-mail address and I'll send them over to you
  • Very handy!
  • Leicester, Bristol, Ipswich, Crystal Palace, Millwall - Those will do me, more if I can fit them in - but those are the ones that are a definite at this point in time!

    Bristol I have a place to stay, will be good to grab a weekend with a mate. Ipswich is easy, and Leicester... I want to see the return of the Kerminator there! Hopefully there will be more when I grab a map and practice my geography skills. :P

    This season will be more difficult to avoid getting caught out on a cheap ticket. Last season we knew we could only be on three times, this year, who knows?

    I will start a thread immediately cheap tickets become available for each game.

    (Thanks for the kind words SE9, must buy you a drink for that!)
