Mentioning Diawara in this thread is nonsense. He didnt start well, but by the end of the season he looked a decent player.

Incredulously saw the name Linvoy Primus...I'm genuinely shocked, he was excellent for us in the four games he played....in fact I'm pretty certain he got man of the match in his final game at The Valley. I just can't believe he's been mentioned.
He left the club because of some 'shall we say' personal reasons outside of football and also at the time we were blessed with one or two other very good centre backs.
He went on to have a very distinguished career and I can asure you all that there were more than a few raised eyebrows when the announcement was made that he was leaving us.
Absolutely 'no way whatsoever' can he be described as one of the worst defenders to wear an Addicks shirt.
Primus's last game for us was "that" 5-2 home defeat to Sheff Utd. He was woeful. Given that his knees were totally shot by then it wasn't really a surprise.

Well Clem.....I know 100% that he did get a man of the match for us...maybe it was his first game?
And how could he have had completely shot knees....he went on to play countless games at an even higher level?

Refering to his loan spell for us in the Championship I guess? Think he only played 1 more game for Portsmouth before retiring when he went back.

Definitely Doherty for me, Norwich fans kept saying he'd be great, and he was useless.

We had him back on loan from Portsmouth the year we went down under Pardew and Parkinson.

Ah yes Clem that's right I remember now....but when he was with us as a youngster he was a really decent young player.
How many games did he play before he left us for Barnet....possibly just the one and if so, that would be the game when he got MOTM?

Bobby Goldthorpe bit like Bambi on ice at times, but probably not the worst...thoughts?
  • Doherty and Llera were both terrible. I thought Diawara was an excellent player once he'd settled in.
  • Jamie Stuart.

    Jamie Stuart.
    Really?
He didn't exactly set the world on fire but he wasn't a contender for worst of all time.

Alan dugdale. Also, I remember Chris Wilder being on loan with us as a right back away to Palace during Lennie's reign but before we moved there.
    He was utter shite
  • El-Kalej for a performance in the Premier League but in recent years it has to be the Doc! Never rated Paddy McCarthy and Chapple used to scare me...
  • Weve had some pretty shocking defenders in recent years but whats stood out is the lack of pace. Doherty and Llera often seemed to move in slow motion - Llera's performance when we lost 4-0 to Millwall away still haunts me.
  • Johnny OOOSTERGAARRD , and Peter Shaw..?
Ostergaard was an old fashioned swashbuckling centre forward, not a defender (he was still poo though).

Peter Shaw improved after a nightmare start when he was given merciless stick by his own fans. Showed great character I thought (still pretty lame in the grand scheme of things though, I'll give you that)

Despite it being in the Prem El Khaej was crap .

I think like six bag of nuts that the inclusion of Peter Shaw is particularly unfair .

Although in the Third tier in 1980/81 he created an excellent partnership with Les Berry which was a key component in our promotion that year .I even think he was the runner up in the POTY vote .

    El Khaej
    Steve Dowman
    Paul Friar
    Jamie Stuart
    Djimi Traoue
    Simon Francis
  • Emphatically not the worst defender overall, but El Karkouri filling in at right-back away to Forest was a bit special. Couldn't even take a throw without fouling. Twice. Paul Miller was a bit dodgy at times, especially when he first signed.
