Olympic Torch coming through the Borough

Came down the end of my road yesterday, they had all the torchbearers in the minibus with all their torches racked up ready to go on their turn, the actual torch ( the lit one! ) follows behind a procession of outriders, sponsors buses (samsung, lloyds, and a few others) but I admit the atmosphere is really good, and very good turn outs too!creepyaddick said:
Possible, as I think it is transported on a vehicle for some of the time outside of built up areas. The distances it covers in a day must mean it can't be carried on foot everywhere.Bournemouth Addick said:My brother in Law was in Hull or (some other place of that ilk) the other week and said the torch route came past his hotel but was in a van, not being carried by runners - can that be right or was he mistaken ?
Good to hear that Creepy - were you a sceptic before you sampled the atmosphere?

Really pleased to hear that - heard so many similar stories in all the places I followed it, from 'meh' to 'wow that was actually good fun, nice one'0 -
Thought this might raise a smile!
An American woman who was a prominent fund-raiser got a tattoo.
With Olympic spelt 'Oylmpic'
''A woman who got a new tattoo to celebrate her role in the Olympic torch relay was shocked to discover it had been spelt incorrectly.Jerri Peterson, from Atlanta in the US, carried the torch through Derby on 30 June after being nominated by the hotel chain she worked for.
Before coming to England, she decided on a tattoo to mark the occasion.
Only later did the 54-year-old realise it featured the mis-spelling "Oylmpic".
Mrs Peterson was one of 70 international employees selected by her firm to take part in the relay as a thank you for her years of charity work.

I'd rather not get up early on Saturday to watch it go through Eltham High St at 8:58am. Bit early really.0

Full list of torchbearers for Greenwich Borough. Some worthy folks in there.

My husband and I both enjoyed seeing the torch at the Leeds Castle Torch Event this evening. Everyone there seemed to be having a good time. It was nice to be a part of something special.0

I'll be there early doors tomorrow, providing I don't drink too much tonight! Won't be often that the Olympic torch comes along Eltham High Street!!0
-
Some bloke tried to do that over here back in 2000, had the same result as this dozy bugger.0

Happened about half a mile from where we were watching it. Typical Denton Numpty.0

The security guys were def on the ball though!0

Yeah thought they did a good job there, no doubt some sections of the media will add this to a list of 'failings' we've made over the olympics. The way some of the media criticize and belittle the hard work being done in our country over the olympics is shamefulcreepyaddick said:The security guys were def on the ball though!

They could just keep the medals under the Queens bed.0

Watched the torch through Kidbrooke. Good crowd and atmosphere. Nice to see Theo Foley standing just along the road looking fit and well.

Amazing coincidence! "Olympic torch coming through the borough!" is exactly what I shout at the moment of maximum passion when me and my missus are having our usual Saturday morning bed gymnastics.0
-
Watched it come down Eltham High Street earlier. Big crowds, great atmosphere, everyone was happy and smiling in the sunshine, all in all a nice little trip out. What's not to like?
