Proper sportsmanship

In the Serie A the other week Klose scored a goal that was blatant handball and the ref awarded a goal, however Klose approached the ref and admitted handball and also asked for the goal to be chalked off, which it was. What fantastic sportsmanship, its just a shame his team Lazio went on to lose 3-0.

This is football, not snooker - he should be fined by his club. Cheating is part of the modern game.

He should be expecting a horse's head on his pillow now though!

I did wonder what was the score at the time but that really is great sportsmanship at 0-0.

Mind you I wouldn't expect that too often (sadly)

They'd probably be criticised by their own fasn over here.

If you don't applaud sportsmanship, you lose the right to criticise Foresteieieieiriieiei and his ilk.

Why should the player be held responsibile for the referees mistake?
He has let his team down and his teams fans down.

The way Henry was castigated on here for play off game with Ireland was a joke.

So we are encouraging and applauding cheats then? As mentioned above, I trust you won't be opening your gob about the likes of Forestieri, Suarez, Ronaldo etc.

Difference between accidental rule breaking (such as Klose above) and deliberate cheating like diving.

So you can say 'I'd be annoyed if he did that for us' and still have the right to hate the disgusting little racist diving Suarez prick

Have not seen the incident but if he punched the ball in, he should have just apologised after the game or acted contrite and said yeah was fortunate to get given that one.

where do you stop with accussing them of being cheats?
Players claiming for throw ins they blatantly know touched them on the way out.
get them to ask the ref to change his mind as the oppo nicked the ball away from him, and that it wasn't really a foul?

It's not even accusing them of being cheats. They are cheats. They are encouraged to cheat and coaches are even teaching them how to cheat. But they are still cheats and I for one do not like to see it. I don't like it when we do it and I don't like it when other teams do it. But we lose all rights to complain about another team cheating if we do it ourselves. I find it very hard to have a go at Almunia for time wasting on Tuesday when Hamer is just as bad when we are trying to run down the clock.

Be interesting to see how Watford react to the opposition winning a penalty with a dive.

I seem to remember DiCanio catching a cross instead of smashing it into the net.
He was applauded then by fans and the press.

He was at West Ham, it was against Everton and their keeper had gone down injured.

I recall an amazing one with De Rossi at Roma. He scored a goal via some kind of infringement. His concience was obviously niggling him so he went to the ref and asked for it to be chalked off. They were losing at the time.

I wonder if there are any stories of a Juve player doing anything like that? ;-)

agreed, he's been dining out on that incident ever since ... you CAN fool some of the people all of the time
  • Is there ant video footage of the Watford dive from Tuesday?

Dont forget to put Robbie Fowler in the Sportsmanship Hall of Fame.
Against Seaman. Got a penalty, kept telling everyone that it was a penalty, ref didnt listen and then pretty much just passed it to Seaman
