Well done Terry Butcher.

For me it was a breath of fresh air in amongst a game that frankly stinks at times now, when Terry Butcher opted to remain at Inverness instead of a return to England with Barnsley. His quote,

"I have also brought people to this club and, on reflection, feel that I should remain with them to try and continue the good work. My focus is now firmly on that."

reflects for me a great attitude, not only for his players, but also for his family, and I wish him every success both in football and in life.

Have been to Barnsley, think his decision was a no brainer.
  • Or interpreted: I have had a meeting with the Barnsley board who inform me they haven't got a pot to P in and are selling their best players to clubs competing in the same division. They will likely go down because I can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. Thus tarnish my reputation and sack me the following year because I can't wave a magic wand to get them up as champions. Additionally they weren't prepared to pay me enough for the 2 seasons I will last at the club for.

  • Especially as Barnsley have just sold one of their best players (Craig Davies)!
  • Inverness is in one of the most beautiful parts of Britain - you'd have to be mad to swap it for Barnsley

    Agreed.

Plan to walk the Great Glen Way at some point (*becuase I can't afford to do it via boat at £800+!), looks awesome up there.

Was it also a breath of fresh air, that Sean O'Driscoll turned them down before Butcher, in order that he could stay loyal to the job centre ? :-)

Barnsley will be going down quicker than a whore's drawers.

Completely agree. There is some nice countryside near Barnsley too, but the opportunity to live and work up there - too good to give up in my opinion.

My Grandad was from there. :-)

I don't know why they're after Butcher, his record is pretty poor.

My friend was coached by Butcher at Sydney FC here in Oz and he said that Butcher was a dreadful coach, didn't even last a full season.

I was down under when that happened. Sydney ended up wining the grand final (FFS...) that season!

When I lived in Huddersfield I went out with a girl from Barnsley, but her parents stopped her seeing me because they thought she wouldnt be able to handle the step up in class.

Yes, but not with Big Terry at the helm!

My mate, of Italian background, said that the non-Anglo players (who place a huge premium on technique and tactics) were left pretty cold by Butcher's blood n' thunder tactics.
