    Not yet safe i'm afraid we have some "winnable" looking home games to come but our home form is so bad that we can't be trusted. Fortunately we have been very good away so far but with a string of tough games to come we can't guarantee that will continue.

    No chance of going down - unless your ooh Ahh who will tell you it's a 46% chance and that we are all doomed.

    We played well today.

    We've played well the last three games.

    Sometimes in football it just doesn't go for you.

    Thankfully, a bit of common sense.

    All you people crapping yourselves that we're in a relegation struggle. We've got 15 games to get a dozen points.

    12 points = 3 wins and 3 draws. Or any combination you like.

    This was before today's game.

    22nd = 1% chance
    23rd = 0%
    24th = 0%
    (BIG R = 1.6%)

    I'd suggest it's a bit tighter, especially after today with maybe 5-10% chance, but this is a pretty good estimator. :-)

    A 6 point cushion with 15 games to go is nothing at all.

    There's a block of a dozen teams separated by about 5 points.
    Typically, they've been taking points off each other - and will continue to do so.

    We might be 15th ..... but the team in 7th place (who we beat comfortably away 3 games ago), has only 3 points more.
    Yep, Blackburn are only 9 points away from a relegation place.

    I don't feel Blackburn will be thinking, "Jeez, a 9 point cushion with 15 games to go is nothing at all".

    The thing is, there is no point in looking at the fixtures and saying we won't get any points from this game and that game. We have taken 7 points out of 9 against the top three and lost to Sheff weds and Barnsley. We will get the points we need but probably not in the way we would predict.

    The annoying thing is that over the last fortnight we've thrown away 8 points. If we had those points we'd be in the playoffs!

    Crazy tight in the middle of the division

    Cardiff are 10 points clear. The limited, distinctly mediocre even, team that let us walk 5 goals past them. We'll be fine. I'm judging this on performances rather than results. That said, there are a lot of teams in a similar position to us this year - it might be the most homogenous British professional league in a long, long time
  • Not safe, but then that applies to most teams in this crazy league! It's certainly closing up, and I wouldn't like to predict who'll end up relegated this season.

    If we play like we did today bar finishing we'd win the league.

    We've had it. We're down. The white flag has gone up again on Charlton Life.

    Bloody glad I'll never have to fight in the trenches with some of you pussies.

    Just to put things in perspective - there are 6 teams below us that are not in the relegation places. For us to go down we would have to be on worse form than all 6 of them and one of the teams in the bottom three between now and the end of the season.

    If we had won today we would have been in 4th place in the form table over the last 6 games. As it is we are 8th. People do like to overreact!
  • Things change very quickly. Millwall are one point more than us having lost four on the spin. I doubt their fans are either calling for Jacketts head or worrying about relegation.

    Maybe they should be worrying they have been bottom of the form table of the last 3 week

    I think there is a real chance we will get drawn into a relegation scrap although I do not believe we will actually go down. The saving grace despite our propensity to piss points up a tree at the moment is that we are actually playing quite well.

    Okay. Almost no-one thinks we're going down, so you need to get a grip and stop over-reacting.

    I thought that's what Charlton Life was for Uboat - over reactions.

    Anyway, what exactly am I supposed to be getting a grip on? Can you tell me please?

    we are playing quite well I think if we had a consistent striker who could finish games off we would be sitting in the play offs .

    It's a saying, a turn of phrase, an idiom. It essentially means to regain your mental and emotional equilibrium.

    Cheers Uboat. I hadn't actually realised I'd lost my mental and emotional equilibrium, but I think I'd best go and look for it now.

    Maybe Mike has nicked it?

    That seems unlikely, to say the least.
