We net to put a price tag on him. £12m or something stupid. That's what everybody else does nobody seems to settle except for us. If we say £12m we can be haggled down to £6m.

"Of course there is always a risk and an uncertainty when it comes to signing a younger player from the lower leagues"

Just love this quote from the hammers blog as if they've ever sent the premier league alight but just existed....when they have stayed up of course.

Solly would be just too good for them.

And if you havent guessed, i would be totally pissed off if we sold him, too many of out young players are going for nothing, i have been a valley gold member since 1998, I wonder whats the point of funding other clubs future players.

1988 i meant since the first day it started.
  • I think some of you at least are forgetting what Chris might want. He has been brilliant fort us and long may it continue but IMHO he has earned his shot at the big time and big money and who can blame him for that. If West Ham come calling he may want to leave.

Rob Lee, Scott Minto, Simon Webster, Lee Bowyer, Scott Parker....
It's how we roll. But we do pretty well all things consider.
    Cousins to step up?

If we keep solly and most of the top players next season (which I doubt, but possibly) add a couple of good loans and freebies, then we might do well next season. If just one of the top performers leave, It might lead to others asking to go because they must know we're skint and not going to do much improvement. I'll be happy with survival next season already.

(Off Topic): Can you think of any players others than Konc & parker who have played for North, South, East & West London clubs ?

parker: CAFC, chelski, west ham & Spuds,
Konc: CAFC, Fulham, west ham & Spuds.

I think Southampton have a young 17 yr old back that they value at 17 mil now other clubs now sniffing around. Solly is probably the best young right back outside the Prem league. Unless a player is at the end of a contract or completly untried than a fee should start at 5 million. On that basis I think the club should put a valuation on him much higher.

Southampton are now one of the wealthiest clubs in England and are almost certain to be a premiership club next year so they can afford to reject any bid if they so wish.

I would understand it if Solly was sold but it would surely confirm the demise of the "plan". We can't be serious candidates even to challenge for the play offs next year if we sell our best player.

Think we can all understand selling our top players its just the peanuts we get for them

Not necessarily. A good fee for an unsettled player that added to already allocated funds could transform the team for the better. That's assuming of course there was going to be already allocated funds and that all or most of the fee was given to the manager. As things stand I doubt the " plan" still exists.

any cash we get for Solly will go back in our debt fund and help to keep us going till we sell the club.Unless we bring 2 or 3 players up from the juniors we will at best just be a mid table championship club which is a better situation than we have been in for the last few years.Untill we ease our cash problems we must just be happy will the position we are in

If we all seem to think that the owners are desperately looking to find new investment, then the players must be even more aware of the problems. In those circumstances, the Agents particularly of young players will be very active right now on their player's behalf. Tough times in an industry where we could lose Clubs.

If I were Chris Solly I'd set my sights higher than West Ham - Ferguson has no problems in playing full backs of the same height. That is the sort of side he should play for rather than the type usually assembled by Allardyce.

Would hate to see him playing for west ham, no doubt he'd soon be touted as another example of their fantastic youth set up.

Would also hate to see him go to a top 6 club & sit in their reserves cause they've been out & spent 20mill on a RB .............best we keep him at The Valley ;-)

I suppose It depends on whether we are able to have a real go at it next season. I’m sure the board will want to do this and will try to secure the finances for a push. How successful they are will probably determine whether we have a great year or a crap one!

To be honest, I could happily live with a good few years at mid-table Championship level - PROVIDED we play some decent football and get entertained at the Valley instead of watching us get turned over and looking like a very poor sunday morning side after a big night out.
  • 4-5m for Solly, with a West ham player on loan for a year as part of the deal too, then invest 2m of it on a decent creative midfielder, make Wilson 1st choice right back, and use the other 2-3m to cover some debts and i think i'd be fairly happy with that.

We always get shafted by clubs as soon as they flash their cheque book , we'd probably end up with some donkey who didn't want to be here, Aka Carlton Cole/ Frank Noble ( yes i know it Nouble).

I personally don't think it'll be West Ham who bid for Solly but if anyone does come in then we should try and get around £5m for him and pump it back into the team and mount a challenge for promotion next season. As much as I love Chris Solly I'd rather have 11 decent players out there than 2-3.
  • Agree that providing any money is used for team strengthening then CS could leave albeit with some regret. I do feel that any fee above 2.5 million will only be achieved with add on clauses.

Would be gutted to lose Chris he is easily our best player but I fear if we are to do any business in the transfer market he will have to go. Hopefully around the £3m would be achievable the one issue is that the board may not make all that money available to CP.
