Anyone ever been before? I'm off to Hamburg later and someone's hopefully going to get me a ticket for tomorrow night's FC St Pauli v Borussia Monchengladbach match (me posting this has probably jinxed it, mind). Any hints, other than to behave myself when around the Reeperbahn?

    A lot of their fan's groups are extremely political - strong republican links, anti British/French/American, specialising in squatting, molotov cocktails and not bathing.

    I'd love to go to see them, I heard they had their team photo taken with them all wearing handcuffs!

    And when they got a new team bus they graffitied it and smashed it up a bit so as it didn't look new

    Currently in 9th spot in Budesliga II after a couple of divisions in the Regionaliga Nord. Essentially they enjoy a cult following throughout Germany and football that is far and away totally disproportionate with the amount of success they've actually enjoyed on the pitch. Their big rivals are Hamburg (naturally) and Rostock who traditionally had a large right-wing following. Famous ex-players include Cory Gibbs...

    As for their fans being left-wing...the club takes pride in being anti-racist, fascist and so on, which amusingly gets up the noses of the holier than thou brigade - take a look at the class of people who affect to dislike St Pauli, that should give you an idea of why they should be supported.

    Yeah, exactly the reason why I like St Pauli, I've been to a game there, and it was an experience I really enjoyed.

    I also support Celtic and but couldn't give a toss about the political side.

    However I'm sure Derek Hales and the rest of the Charlton support has a real in depth knowledge about Che Guevara! Get over yourself.

    The only good thing about St Pauli was their brown kit.

    Well, I went, couldn't get a ticket for the match (see, said that post was a jinx) so I watched it in a bar around the corner with a load of crusties! They lost 3-0 and had a mare, but it was an experience - bollocks to the politics, it's a world away from anything you'll ever see in England.

    And it must be the only club in Europe whose club shop sells its own brand of cigarettes. Loved Hamburg too, I'll go back when I'm guaranteed a ticket for a match!
