There's no way Hughes could play 46 games next season. That's why I reckon Gower might be a decent option to have

if the plan is further consolidation then sign him. If the plan is a tilt at promotion then don't.

I would be astonished if consolidation was NOT the main plan actually. There are five different stories a week about the state of club finances but a major spending spree seems right out by most accounts. Revamp the squad a little, stay safely midtable and maybe a tilt for the play-offs, but no more, not yet. It would take a lot of work before the current squad would realistically challenge consistently at the top.

we are not that far off in my opinion. I'd be happy to go up with a weak squad, take the 80m on offer, get relegated with a view to instant promotion.

I'm not saying he is rubbish or would be a terrible signing - I'm just hoping we set our sights a bit higher.

I like Gower. Started slow which was understandable. But seeing his assist for Kerm (vs Boro) and for Kerm again (vs Bristol). Apart from JJ, I couldn't think of anyone else who could pick those balls out.

All game against Boro he was immense. Keeps us ticking over. Best passer in our squad I believe.
  • Good signing but hope its only a years contract at 34.
  • Cheers Henry, but as someone once said, I won't believe it until its on the OS. :-0

I hope he signs. He will dictate the way of play that will be pleasing on the eye.

PS: If he does sign, we've got to get him a decent pitch to play on.

Didn't someone put a post on here recently showing that the valley pitch was being returfed?

Decent squad bolstering signing - but at 34, is he going to be a first teamer that will push us on to the next level? Guess we shall see this year.

Too good to pass up if he's on a free transfer and should be on low-ish wages

Did we lose a single game with him in the side?

Don't think we can afford much better and I also don't think we saw the best of him. Think he'll be both more reliable and creative than Stephens.
  • Good signing if we get him IMO. With our back 5 all very good and signed up for next year (assuming no sales of course!) and with him, Pritchard, Jackson & Harriet (plus a lesser degree Hughes) we have the basis of a good squad.

We could really do with a great right winger, 2 super strikers to partner Kermo and a beast to sit in CM.

Hopefully yes. Definitely a step up from Stephens and Hollands

    Good signing. Well done SCP.
  • Well theres a surprise

Welldone the club for signing him up and well done mark for not asking a kings ransome for wages

I know he never played every game when he came but our good turn in form coincided with his arrival

    Very glad he signed

    Good signing.
Mark look's after the ball really well.
Maybe we missed that in the middle of the park at times last season.

Could pave the way for Dale' or Holland's exit, however.
