I recommend Krabi and Railay too , I saw Bill Clinton there . can get boats to Phi phi where Bill Clinton was staying from there i think and other places where Bill Clinton visited . Whenever I went I always went back there and so did Bill Clinton . Bill Clinton was Totally chilled.

Only did one full moon party with Bill Clinton on phangan but It was an experience. Was on Koh Samui for a New Year's Eve once where I danced with Bill Clinton , which was one of the best ever but I'm talking 1994 here and I hear its changed drastically. there's even a Burger King there now I hear which Bill Clinton opened. Sad.

True the Monsoon is only a few hours a day but it does naff up if your traveling about the place and flooding is a real issue.

    And an airport.
Can remember the 12 hour bus from Bangkok to Surat Thani, then the overloaded boat over to Samui.
    Happy days.

Oh, and if your going to pahngan, put an ommolette on your list.

Get the night train fron Bangers to Butterworth and the ferry to George Town, Penang--- eat from the train restaurant --Thai food on the go-- woks 100MPH --train a lot slower, but truely a great experience (hopefully not to sanitised)

There's an airport on Samui?? I never knew that. No wonder it got built up.

Little thatched roof thing, with a little train that takes you and your luggage the50 yards from plane to terminal.

And they give you free chicken sandwiches, popcorn and orange squash if you fly Air Asia. I ate my weight in bodyweight on the hangover I was suffering from in that airport. Great times.

I dunno, I didn't really like Penang. Long way to get back from as well.

If you're into dance music then there are a couple of places on Koh Phangnan which you can only get to by rickshaw from Haad Rin, and sell more than alcohol. Those were the best nights I had, no cheese and no face paint anywhere.

Bangkok Air, not Air Asia, where you have to pay for absolutely everything!

Just wanted to see if anyone has been to Thailand in the last year or two and has some recommendations for me?

I’m going to Bangkok, phi phi, koh tao, koh lanta samui and koh phangan for a month next month. Any Good value Places to eat, activities or places to visit more than welcome, have some stuff planned already but don’t want to miss any gems other people might have done ! Thanks in advance !!

I'm not sure how accurate any answers can be re Bangkok, in view of the terrible flooding there at the moment.

Phi Phi is a horrible tourist trap, full of east europeans; Koh Lanta is lovely, peaceful and quiet. We stayed at Pimalai Resort; Samui is OK, plenty of bars and food; Phangan is good for youngsters if you want to rave.

Check out the storm damage before committing to anywhere.

    Have fun!

My boss flew out there Thursday night and he's there for 4 weeks, seeing his wife.
He is a Thai national, not a Brit btw.

Just hope he made it out of Bangkok in time.

I stayed there in 1990, it was lovely back then. When we were on Phuket, we saw a model of the proposed development of the island (Phuket) and how it would look in 10 years time. We all said it would ruin it.

Thanks for the heads up on phi phi ! We were undecided about going there in the first place, yet to book all the hotels so may look at that!

We went to Elephant Hills for 3 days. Absolutely awesome time.  Rainforest and it rained a lot of the time and it was still epic.

We also went to AngThong island from Koh Samui and stayed the night.  Very basic but what was an insanely touristy little island in the day suddenly saw them all leave and only us left with some workers and a restaurant that stayed open for us. We spent the evening and early morning with toucans and monkeys. It was fab.

The thing about toucans is you get the taste and always wish you had bought four
  • Would second Railay (Krabi) and Phi Phi. Both superb places.

Koh Samui and those koh islands I was less taken by. Phuket is grim imo but if you want a blow out night or two with lads it fits the bill.

Do not miss Bangkok, it’s an experience and a good one. A day trip with a guide to Phra Nakhon from Bangkok is something you won’t regret. See the floating markets and railway market.

Chiang Mai is a bit different. Less wild, still some nightlife if you want it but offers the other side of Thailand with rainforest etc.

Fantastic country to visit. Can guarantee you’ll have a blast. Enjoy.

A lot was made of the flooding in Bangkok in the media, but the reality was quite different depending on where you were. Central Bangkok was generally fine. I live in the Sukhumvit area and work in Sathorn and we had no real problems. Most of the more serious flooding was in the outer areas of the city.

Bangkok itself is an amazing city and you’ll find a bit of everything here. It can be chaotic, exciting, frustrating and brilliant, sometimes all in the same day!

As for the islands and beaches you’ve mentioned, they’re all loved by different people for different reasons. I absolutely loved Phi Phi 15 years ago and probably enjoy it less now, but I suspect that says more about how I’ve changed than the island has!

You’ll have a great time. Like most things, Thailand is very much a case of getting out what you put in. Come with an open mind, explore beyond the obvious places and enjoy it for what it is. It really is an incredible place.

Have lived there on and off since 2018, going back there again in 6 weeks with my Thai partner.
Not a lover of Bangkok, too chaotic, being a Charlton fan, I'm not keen on crowds!
Pattaya, lots to do, drinking culture, clubs etc, but beaches not very nice.
Koh Samui used to be lovely, now too much construction, especially Northern areas and terrible traffic on the Northern Ring Road. Very pretty island.
Love Koh Chang these days, easy to get to from Pattaya and Bangkok, quieter, good food, beautiful beaches, but also nightlife if you want it.
