Head of conference and banqueting Paul Ellison is the latest senior manager to fall foul of the current regime and has been suspended pending further action.

It means that of the seven most senior personnel 13 months ago, only Dave Archer is now working full-time, as head of commercial sales.

To recap:

Peter Varney (executive vice chair) and Steve Kavanagh (chief executive) left abruptly last July and both have pursued legal avenues of redress. Varney's case was settled on Varney's terms; Kavanagh's claim is still outstanding.

Rick Everitt (head of club development) was sacked on October 17th in a disciplinary process, including appeal, that lasted 163 days and is still the subject of an unfair dismissal claim.

Matt Wright (head of communications) resigned without alternative employment in July 2013

Mick Everett (head of operations) is working part-time to cover matchdays

Paul Ellison (head of conference and banqueting) is now suspended

Dave Archer (head of commercial sales) remains in post . . .

How many total years of experience at CAFC is that gone?
  • Wow. We appear as a club to be divesting ourselves of years of specialist knowledge, experience and a host of contacts and goodwill in double quick time.

You do realise that you'll be in for another round of Airman bashing as result from those still of the opinion that all's well in the state of Denmark...

More than 60, with Wendy Perfect and Helen Reed from the next level down it would be in the 80s.

But Paul hasn't gone yet and there is always the presence of Prothero and Slater to ensure a fair disciplinary process.

I find it amazing that they can find the time and money to fire and then face employment tribunals but cant seem to find it when offering our best talent new contracts!
Or is that part of the sweetener to any potential buyer ??
    A completely empty cupboard?

Hi Airman. Can you say what he has been suspended for allegedly doing or not doing? Thanks

must be a great working atmosphere down there at the moment!

As one senior staffer said to me recently, whenever two or more Charlton employees are gathered together conversation quickly turns to what a terrible place it has become to work over the last year. Of course, people often like to moan about their employers, but the atmosphere down there is absolutely toxic.

S/he also told me that Paul Ellison would be the next target . . .

Hmmm, Seems rather coincidental that hospitality prices go up significantly and PE gets suspended.

At this rate Rick, you won't have any contacts left at the club.

Thanks for the super fast delivery of the Voice btw.

Chris was not part of the senior management team last July, no.

I'm not able to comment on Mick's motives. I think for me to expand on the reasons for Paul's suspension at this stage would potentially risk compounding his problems, which I have no wish to do.

This is just getting more and more obscene.
  • I would have thought Chris Parkes would be classed at least as key personnel to the business.
  • Very concerning.

So at present he's suspended for reasons that are unknown to 99% of lifers at this stage. Looking at what's happened over the last year with people leaving for a variety of differenet reasons, i'm guessing he's not been suspended for an act of violence.

No disrespect to Chris intended by me, it's just a matter of fact that the SMT consisted of the people listed above and other senior people - for example on the football side - weren't part of it. Chris Powell wasn't, but nobody is saying he wasn't senior. Chris Parkes isn't (wasn't) really involved in the day-to-day management of the business.

    He's the Club's Secretary.

He makes the tea, photocopies the P45s, and orders in the rapidly diminishing red-pens needed to put a line through staff lists.....

Yep I see your point AB, so is the footballing side relatively unscathed in this?

I think this is the first time I've posted about any of the shenanigans going on at CAFC, mainly because I have no clue what goes on behind the scenes, but I appreciate everyone's openness about it. But I have a silly question. Why if they directors are so desperate to sell would they bother with the aggro of suspending people with years of experience and going through hearings etc? Does not make sense to me.

I don't know I'd use the word unscathed, because Sparrows Lane doesn't exist in total isolation and there are obviously working relationships between the two, but I'm talking about the situation at The Valley.

ME14 said :- "I fear the club may be starting to try to maximize its match day hospitality income in a bad way. Last season's Celebration Suite has now been renamed the Keith Peacock Suite and it appears that the cost has virtually doubled for basically the same type of food. If this is the case we will need to rethink our match day experience, because we can't afford to pay twice as much for basically the same package as last year. Have they heard of 'killing the goose that lays the golden egg'?"

I would take an educated guess, that perhaps, he wasn't happy about the increase in prices, as well as other things imposed. Possibly like everyone that's "left".

I would guess the attitude is, if you don't like it "there's the door".

I have to say I was lucky, in all my working years I only once had a boss, who had a similar attitude.

I agreed to voice the concerns of all "us" managers, as long as the others backed me up. So I did and not one of the yellow bellies, backed me up. I'll never forget that !
