16 to 18 Work Experience Placement?

She has written to numerous organizations and not got anywhere. Panic mode is kicking in. The school have given her two weeks to find a place. Melanie is based in abbey wood and take any placement.
Any help would be appreciated.

I could potentially take her if you like. I'm a primary school teacher and my school is near west sutton station. Up to you.1

Thanks for the offer. I'll get back to tomorrow if that's ok?Danny Addick said:I could potentially take her if you like. I'm a primary school teacher and my school is near west sutton station. Up to you.

I did two weeks work experience in the Maritime Museum many moons ago. Has she tried there?johnny73 said:

Maybe Henry and the Charlton Museum guys could make use of her talents?
Interesting for her to be in on the ground floor of a project too if museums are what interest her.1 -
Applied but no luck.Clem_Snide said:

Have you tried googling Barclays Lifeskills Work Experience? Your daughter would need to do 2 hours on line training to earn 'points' and would then be able to look at placements available. Placements are not in Barclays, they just run the site1

Thanks. Mel is aware, however the reason she is in this situation is the hope of getting something in her career path. Applied for 20 plus placements and got nowhere. Time is running out now and most of these placements have been filled. I've suggested she go on the barclays site first thing in the morning.Athletico Charlton said:Have you tried googling Barclays Lifeskills Work Experience? Out of interest, which department did your daughter apply to or just generally? I work at the maritime museum and we regularly take on volunteers of all ages.johnny73 said:

Not exactly a museum, but I saw recently that St Alfege church in Greenwich was looking for assistance with it's curators team. Might be worth a call.1

What about emailing Ben Kensell at the Valley? If all else fails.1

Mel said the form allowed her to select two departments and she chose Education and Archiving. If no response was receive after 6 weeks then the application had been unsuccessful. She applied back in November. On the form it stated that an individual could only apply once.stoneroses19 said:

Thank you for the ideas and offers. I am going to give Mel access to my account so she can take this further and respond personally.0

This might be a long shot but the Bank Of England has a small but excellent museum. Try them?
For background, I found this BoE pdf which gives lots of helpful advice about filling in application forms.
careers.cam.ac.uk/sectors/banking/files/boe05appforms.pdf
Two things that interested me were that the BoE gets 50 graduate applications for each position and they seemed to find it necessary to advise to get a new email address if your existing one is porn star related!
I was however somewhat disappointed to see the BoE put an erroneous apostrophe in "Dos and Don'ts"! And spelt "application form" "application from", then suggest you proof read your application. Oh dear....0 -
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has a museum down in the old Arsenal site at Woolwich.0

I had a friend who once worked at the British Library archiving websites which sounded very interesting to me. I don't know whether they offer any work experience in any departments.0

Thank you very much for the offer. If possible could I have some more details please?- MelanieDanny Addick said:I could potentially take her if you like. I'm a primary school teacher and my school is near west sutton station. Up to you.

Thank you very much for the advice. I did look on their site, however despite their lengthy PDF on the benifits of work experience, there doesn't seem to be any placements available.- MelanieWSA said:I had a friend who once worked at the British Library archiving websites which sounded very interesting to me. As my daughter hasn't come on here to thank you all and provide an update (even though she told me she had) i thought i'd just say she has a placement in an art gallery. Thanks again for all your offers. Proves yet again CL is number one.2

Sorry, only just seen this.
Don't think we're at the stage to offer work experience but do have two advisors one at Westminster and the other at Greenwich archives.
Too late I know.0 -
Probably wanted my daughter to connect with the museum more than she did. Anyway she is happy with her choice. I also have a younger daughter so I might be asking again in 10 years time!Henry Irving said:Sorry, only just seen this.
