  • DP had negotiated a great contract based on his arrival into the first team

The sad thing is that if TJ and MS were not chancers we would have had DP in the squad earning brilliant money and prob ensuring our survival by now

I can't see this mentioned anywhere else and thought it was appropriate to this thread, according to the SLP, we've offered him a contract:

Rumour control says they have offered him more than one deal and the ball has been in his court for months but he insisted on waiting to the end of the season.

Don't think there's any doubt there has been a contract offer ongoing for months. He is potentially our most valuable financial asset player wise and RD would know that. Also could be expensive to replace and hopefully some lessons have been learnt there.

Was Hamer out on the piss when he gave that last quote about being well-mannered? Quality line if he was!! ;-)

If Ben Hamer does leave this summer and Diego Poyet stays then he gets a lasting thank you from me... Hopefully its a sign Ben is staying as well if he wants Diego to

It'd be madness to lose either Ben Hamer or Diego Poyet in the summer. There are half a dozen positions that need to be sorted/solidified/backed up in the team but first-choice goalie's not one of them, and keeping Diego's worth 10 million a season or two from now, so if the Belgians invest even half of that in the summer then it's what these corporate types call a no-brainer. Keep both!

I'd add Morrison and Dervite to that list too. We'd lose the core of the team overnight. Fully expect it to happen with Duchatelet though. He's got previous.

Difference is none of these players can be sold to fetch in a transfer fee in the same way selling Kermorgant and Stephens did - this is a different situation but lets hope they all stay.

This is my concern.....i need to see for the first time since RD took over, some positive activity in this respect. When I do i will be positive, but I haven't seen a jot of evidence yet.

Wiggins and Jackson signing doesn't count as 'evidence' then?

limited evidence - I'll give you that though. At the moment we are certs for relegation. No, bear with me...I am saying that to be a team that has a chance not to get relegated- we will need to sign a decent manager, Poyet, Morro, Dervitte and Hamer. So when we tick these off the status will change. Then if we add to the qulaity of the squad we can move up the scale to the point where we can say we are likely challengers. We are firmly on the relegation part of the as we stand today. Hopefully we will be moving up in the weeks to come.

Well, I was convinced that he was off, but now I'm slightly more optimistic. I'm not sure Hamer would be saying that if Diego had already made his mind up.

I believe Duchatalet will do all he can to make them sign, whether he then sells them in January/next summer is yet to be seen.

I view Duchatalet as like me when I play football manager, you have players you like, but at the end of the day, if selling a player for £5 million is enough to mean that you have finances for promotion next season, you go for it. Remember that Duchatalet doesn't really attend games, he has no real love or affinity to Charlton like previous owners may have.

This makes the decision to sell a much less emotional one, and almost all of it comes down to a business decision. Ultimately I think we will be a stronger club under him, but we might lack a little bit of soul.

Basically, make sure you fall in love with players like Pigott and Evina, not Hamer and Poyet.

Think that's the first time Iv disagreed with you nla , I think dervite really showed he's class since Riga came in and would everything to try and re sign him . Probably ahead of hamer and maybe even morro.

I am also a big Devite fan. Looked a class act the last couple of months. Its not a shock to hear of other clubs interest.

Dervite has already spoken about him wanting to stay didn't he when it was announced he was in talks over a new contract.

He can play football, he's quick, better in the tackle than we give him credit for and he's scored some crucial goals.

I do think he's now edging Morrison as our first choice centre half.

You're right, this is exactly the same as you playing Football Manager.

Morrison and Dervite are a good pairing. They'd even better with a strong left footed CB working with them.

Apart from Wood, from what I saw of Harry Lennon last year we potentially have one albeit still learning his trade. Who better to have learnt from though than than the four CBs in the last campaign.

Hmmm...seem to recall you saying something similar in Jan...then we replaced Yann with the mighty Reza.
