Simon Church 100% support

100% support as anything else can not help the player or team to play well. I often forget that he is a relative youngster and expect more from him as he plays for Wales. Still a work in progress.

Putting aside the rights and wrongs of it, it's so utterly counter-productive getting on your own players backs as it adversely affects their performance. The Simon Francis who played against us for Bournemouth the other week looked a whole lot better than the one who turned out for us - wonder if that's got anything to do with not having his own supporter's constantly telling him how crap he is.

It's a forum, everyone should say what they think. At the ground however, he's one of ours, and though I understand the frustration, the sort of Planks I saw against Burnley, wearing Charlton shirts and just abusing Charlton players, makes me despair. Why criticize Church when your own actions actively help the opposition?

He wasn't too bad when we first got him. I don't understand what has happened now....

Agree...it's not his fault his playing, the manager picks the team.....better to save the slagging off for after the game.

He doesn't strike me as the sort of player who would do that. I think he knows his performances have been poor this season, certainly not good enough to confront the manager on not starting. He definitely knew he had a poor game on sat. How does Dr Kish know this?

Yeah, that was tongue in cheek - taking the p!ss a little because I can't see him being the sort to do that either.

He seems to be a good honest pro who would be able to accept that sometimes you're just not well suited to the team and/or you're simply not good enough for a given situation.

"Confronted" in itself could be taken as aggressive: "Why the f*ck aren't I playing? I go out there and put in a solid 90 minutes of effort every game and run my legs in to the ground. I try and play to the team and provide some link up, and if this is because of the Reading match then what was I meant to do? It's hardly like I was missing chance after chance.". He could even have asked why Thuram managed to be on the bench when he wasn't; which would be fair.

Equally so though, it could mean "I just want to know why I can't make the team but Marvin is starting; I've played more and the last gaffer didn't play him so much as the fans complained about his work-rate and got on his back. I'm really am trying and mean what I said in that interview, but is there anything else I can do?".

Arguably both situations are "confrontations" - but one is greatly more admirable than the other.

If he did confront Riga, and if it was aggressive, not only would I be surprised - but I'd be quite concerned at the timing of this. Combined with Thuram, it would suggest there may be some conflict and tension bubbling up. Something which seems unlikely considering how we're playing at the moment though.

However it's all conjecture, we'll never know.

I'll support him on the pitch, but like others it can be frustrating to watch him play. Unlike some I've never seen him as lazy (have missed a lot of games this year though), just sadly struggling at this level. He needs our support like any other player on the pitch tho.

I thought we were right to release Bradley Wright-Phillips last summer, but that was on the presumption that we'd be getting someone better in.

So easy to say now that we should let Simon Church go, but not if it means we've got Simon Le Bon playing up front instead.
