Italy warming up in style for the first game. Currently 1-1 at home to the mighty Luxembourg.

That was the full time score !!

Danny Mills just said on the BBC that we are now playing a plyer who won't be going. So what purpose does that serve? Do England managers just have a genetic tic that invites abuse?

Says the man who deliberately got himself sent off so he could have a break at Christmas. Can't see how he can be considered a credible analyst or criticise others after doing that.

Red? Sterling should get a medal for not reacting to that attack from Valencia. Poor kid just looked shocked

This. Full credit for holding it together. He did absolutely nothing wrong. It was a good tackle and he won the ball. Valencia is a disgrace.
Touching the ball doesn't mean winning it fairly. I think it was a risky tackle worthy of a booking but I doubt he'd have even got that had Valencia not reacted in that way.

Wish he'd gone in harder on Valencia after seeing that reaction.
  • Out of 90 minutes Wilshire must spend on aversge 15 on his Aris clutching one part of his body or another. The bloke must be a) made of glass or b) have the pain threshold of a 6 month old.

Absolutely pointless taking him to a tournament imo.

I know we have had a thread on pundits but by God Andy Townsend is really getting me wound up. He keeps on saying 'I really do' after any bloody opinion as if no-one will believe him otherwise. Mind you he is such a moron and talks such utter bollocks that I think he may be right. I really do Clive.
Barkley and Ox looked class acts. Lampard watched the game pass him by.

Totally unexcited about the World Cup. For the first time in years I have no expectations and feel rather unbothered by it all.

James Milner should not be anywhere near an England shirt.

Ecuador finished above Uruguay in qualification. A draw isn't that bad a result. Not great, but not that bad.

If Barkley doesn't start against Italy I will throw something.

Milner is a pub footballer full kit wanker who got lost on holiday in miami and ended up in the game tonight.

Sterling seems to have got sent off for winning a tackle and then getting punched. Bizarre refereeing.

Positives - Barkely. Ox, Lambert all 3 played really well.

    Negatives -
Milner - Woys love child but I think his shit
Lampard - Hopefully Lallana,Barkely gets the nod in front of him
    Foster - looked really poor.

Also didn't understand why he brought on Flanagan and Stones on totally pointless in my opinion.

Damo, enough about Charlton, what about the World Cup?

I agree mostly with this .
I have to pull you up on one bit. I would be more inclined to say that out of 70mins(has he ever played 90?) he spends 60 on his arse.

    Precious.

About what I expected. Some bright enthusiastic young players going forward. Some very average defenders at this level. I'm looking at this World Cup to bring on the new generation of young players, for the next tournament. Barkley, Ox-Chamberlain, Lallana, Shaw, etc.

To be fair to Roy, he had to bring Stones and Flanagan on as they're back up in case Jones isn't fit or there's another injury. He'd get even more stick if Jones didn't make it and one of those two was called up without a cap. Personally I'd rather we took Stones than that waste of space Smalling

I think I heard that this will be his THIRD world cup finals !!! I don't think he's a bad player but surely we have better wide men than him to take to the finals.

Really don't understand why people didn't think Sterling's tackle was a red...

this is after he kicked the ball, when you kick a ball it tends to raise your studs up

Didn't really kick the ball though, he just clipped the top

always went to kick the ball, and kicked it. No sending off, great tackle.
  • The tackle was horrendous. In modern football I don't know how people are questioning the red card. If Valencia hadn't got out the way he could currently be suffering his second broken leg.

Ha, I'm not saying he didn't intend to kick the ball cleanly, but he mistimed it and only caught the top then the man so had to be a foul

An off-the-floor studs-up tackle is a red card offense in the modern game regardless of whether Sterling clips the top of the ball. Another tackle like that in the World Cup and he'll be on the plane home.

it was after the tackle though, he had already won it. Unless you have some kind of weird skeletal structure i think its impossible to keep your studs down after being at full stretch to clip a ball into touch.

Ox has potential ligament damage. Just great
