Does Rooney Start

Genuine question because for me he does not,
he never seems to turn up for England and the way Lambert scored his goal was lethal IMO we should play 4-2-3-1

Gerrard and Wilshere as the 2
Sterling Right, Lallana Centre and Sturridge Left
with Lambert up top

Unless he plays a blinder tonight, not for me. Suspect the Ox's injury is going to let him in by default though.

My front 6 (considering Ox's injury) are:
    ---Gerrard Henderson
    Sterling Barkley Lallana
    ---------- Sturridge

    roy will play 4 3 3 against the i-ties.

    hart
    johnson cahill jagielka Baines
Ox (if fit if not wilshere) Gerrard Lallana
Sterling Rooney (would prefer lambert, but hey ho) Sturridge

He'll give rooney a couple of group games i'm sure.

Don't know why Wilshere and Welbeck are in the squad. Wish we'd taken Carrick and that Walcott was fit.
  • Lallana. Rooney. Barkley
    Sturridge

    Front four for me.

    He shouldn't, but he will.

Managers are too terrified of the media reaction to bench a top star like Rooney.

Rather him than Wilshere or *shudder* Cleverley though.

How long before we start receiving daily bulletins on Jack Wilshere's dodgy ankles ? He will be the next crock .

cheers hopefully I will find the enthusiasm to watch it. But come the World Cup I will be as passionate as any England supporter.

  • I think he still needs to start against Italy, just not instead of Barkley.

would rather wilshere over carrick. Although i've always rated carrick, he's had a crap season and at least wilshere is technically good and can offer "something" even if that something is just dribbling into trouble. Welbeck will come good, far too early for him to be in the england squad, but i dont think he'd be in the squad if jay rodriguez or walcott wasnt injured.

Rooney is there by name rather than performances. If he steps up though................

for me but I wouldn't be too sad to see Barkley in for Rooney.

To be honest, I think Wellbeck behind Sturridge v Italy to pick up Pirlo wouldn't be a bad choice.

Think Milner should be on the right against Italy.
I know he had a stinker on wednesday but he is not a rb, and Johnson may get torn a new one with Sterling/Lallana in front of him.

    Gerrard Henderson
    Milner Rooney Sterling
    Sturridge

for the amount of money he's paid, who he plays for and the amount of caps he's got, Milner is an awful, awful footballer. On second thoughts rooney behind sturridge would be a good shout, as long as rooney doesnt leave pirlo's shadow.

Whilst it can be claimed Rooney is currently poor, is it because he is not living up to his past standards?

Check out his goals and assists compared to his rivals, for the second striker role, during last season. He scored more and set up more than all of them.

what standards?? he's had one top, top season where he was the player he had always promised to be but then failed miserably at the world cup.

Rooney is overrated. Decent international player, but not world class.

2004 he was a beast and we looked capable of winning until his injury, that was the only tournament he has shown his club form. All I am trying to say is that he has out scored any rival for the number 10 shirt.

Club form =/= International form. Rooney is the definition of a good club player.

On the International Stage since 2004 he's been dreadful. Pops up with goals against Andorra in qualifying and then disappears against any half decent side.

Not really arguing just think the alternatives aren't really great either. If you go on international form Wellbeck should start.

    Gerrard Henderson
    Sterling Rooney Lallana
    Sturridge

Lambert barkley wilshire coming off the bench as impact subs offer something different! Ox in if fit! Has to be Henderson suits the role better. Better current form and a partnership with gerrard! The occasion may be too much for barkley to start against Italy!

wayne rooney has yet to score a single goal at a world cup tournament plenty in qualifiers but never on the biggest stage compare that to ronaldo klose etc and he looks very poor.

Spent most of the season on the left, him there and Sterling right worked for Liverpool because they can swap sides

No he didn't. He spent most of the season up top with Suarez. It worked because Suarez is quality and creates space for those around him, and Sturridge is a good striker.
