Everyone has their own views, but it baffles me how players like Kiely and Rufus can come up in some lists but not Chris Powell.

It's hard trying to put together legends and not just personal / cult heroes. Anyway, of those I've seen play:

    Bob Bolder
    Stuart Balmer
    Carl Leaburn
    John Humphrey
    Paul Mortimer
    Lee Bowyer
    Sasa Ilic
    Richard Rufus
    Super Clive Mendonca
    John Robinson
    Mark Kinsella
Chris Powell - as a player and manager
    Andy Hunt
    Scott Parker
    Darren Bent
    Yann Kermorgant
    BWP
    Johnny Jackson
    Chris Solly
    Curbs - as a manager
  • For some reason perhaps it's my age the names of Micky Kenning and Harry Gregory always make the way to the front of my thoughts.

if you can have negative legends

    Ralph Milne
    Redfearn

    Great oxymoron

No Garry Nelson for anyone, ok not the best player but certainly got heavily involved with the club, was always at fund raisers and a writer too.

My First Legend was Matt Tees who i named my son after(Mrs soapbox" why do you want to name our boy Tees")

I was standing at the covered end on a rainy day as a young boy when Matt did the most powerful header which hit the net with such force the spray covered me and other small urchins who were standing right behind the goal.

Matt Tees was like Douglas Bader the second world war fighter pilot in the air.
come to think of it he was similar to him on the ground! but he was still a hero to me.

    To be continued.

Keith Peacock: 567 apps 24 sub including being the first ever sub used in the football league.

" Peacock your colour blind" from cafc fan

As a young boy, i heard this comment.
so returning home after a home defeat, dad and older brother were having inquest in front of mum.

"Peacock had a poor game today"

"it's not his fault he's colour blind and can't tell one player from another" i chirp.

Dad has belly laugh. brother call me thicko and mum bless her, gives me cuddle and says

"Never mind sam never mind. come and have your tea and watch doctor who."

I have been spaced out ever since.

    To be continued.

The two play off teams earned automatic inclusion IMO.

I got shouted at by some Billy Bunter lookalike in the north upper for calling Claus a legend the time. I had a feeling then we'd look back on that midfield with envy.

That's his lot in life though, right? The nearly man. The guy everybody likes but not flashy enough to get manic adulation. I mean that in the nicest possible way, he's as deserving of a mention as any on this thread. But his style, as he's happy to use to his benefit in terms of his books, didn't make him an obvious choice for legendary status.

In the list of legendary near misses Delort must be a contender.
