Alcorcon v Girona Sat 30th August

Charlton's Spanish cousins play their second game of the season, and first at home, against Girona tomorrow. I will update tomorrow on the score and the attendance.

Both teams won their opening game with Girona coming out 1-0 winners against Racing Santander.

Will keep an eye on the Alcorcon supporter boards to see how they are viewing the Duchatelet ownership. They have one player on loan from Standard Liege and another player out there. Be interesting to see if any of our young players go there or we get anyone in.

Haven't decided if I will get to the game or not but if I do it will be with the Charlton top on, which should be a good conversation starter with those in the know!

Good man CM, your posts are going to be interesting this season about Alcorcon.
Might even try to arrange a trip out there this season to see if i can get to see RM or AM play too.

Cheers President. Madrid is a great city for football with the big two and Rayo Vallecano and Getafe as well. The Vicente Calderón has an infinitely better atmosphere on a match day than the Bernabeu, though Real's stadium is an impressive sight.

Much of the buildup for Alcorcon's first game is about the exitement surrounding the debut of a brand new stand in the stadium. RD has put the money into this, which will include new dressing rooms and bars/food outlets. Alcorcon have needed this kind of upgrade to the stadium since they went up to the second league, so in this respect his ownership is seen as a very good thing.
  • When you say they've got a player out there, have they sent a first team player to play for Standard Liege?
  • Looking more closely it is actually the Standard Liege Israeli striker Dudu Biton who has returned there after a short loan (hence why he appears in the 'out' column of the pre-season transfers).

Alcorcon also have the unfortunately named Dani Ponce out on loan to Ujpest.
  • Nil nil at half time.
  • Alcorcon 1-2 Girona full time
  • Bugger.
    Thanks CM.
  • 2000 in attendance. Most of Madrid still on holiday.

    Goals:

    1-0 Mayor 46 mins
    1-1 Sandaza 52 minutes
    1-2 Mata 58 minutes.

Girona had Aday sent off on 79 minutes.

Charlie Dean, the only Englishman playing in Spain, played the full 90 minutes at centre back.

    @CharltonMadrid‌

Interesting about the new stand. Has it increased the capacity at all? it was only 7,000 before.

  • Official website still says 5000 so maybe it is 7000 with the new stand.

There are a couple of nice videos on YouTube and their Facebook site about the new stand and the new season. I will try to find them and do a link.

  • Wot, no roof ?
Then again, this is Spain !
  • No need for a roof here! Will get down there soon and give a proper write up about the ground and how it is all going.
  • Impossible to judge the relative standard of play but it sounds like some of our younger players might be able to get some game time and help out on loan down there...or perhaps any player who is not in the first 18 any time soon.
