International Allstarzz (not new foreign players)

To give a flavour of what children attending can expect from the classes, some of the International Allstarzz will be performing a short routine on the Valley pitch by the Family Stand during half-time at the game against Middlesbrough on Saturday (3pm).

  • Interesting and fits well with RD's quasi philosophy. Many girls won't become involved in sport as they see it as unfeminine. It's a promising idea.
  • Well, the last cheer leading thread went well...
  • Meanwhile, contrary to a report in the local media, the club can confirm there have never been any plans to introduce a regular cheerleading troupe at The Valley on matchdays

  • That's a shame - was looking forward to the cheerleaders.

Wonder if there were plans and they read the views on CharltonLife that fans didnt like the idea so they've quietly scrapped it

Don't make a song and dance over this.

    Your just 2 bob. (:-)

  • Went well! Couple of boos but generally v positive. Better than the first half, even ;)
  • Oops, looks like someone got their wires crossed then...

Seems like a good initiative to get more people from the community involved in the football club

Glad they're billed as dancers and not cheerleaders
  • That is because they are dancers and not cheerleaders. It was promoting the dancing. Thought was a one off and is not linked to the cheerleading previously mentioned.

  • So, I wonder, was this an example of "Bartercard" at work? The Allstarzz wanted to promote their product - dance lessons - we give them promotional space on the pitch and website - they flog programmes around the ground in return. Seems possible.

Women dancing in formation on the pitch is fine. Women dancing in formation on the pitch with Pom Poms in hand is unbearable?

I think Saturday just proved that the long thread on cheerleaders was somewhat over the top.
  • No, because cheerleaders on the pitch would be reflected as Charlton employing cheerleaders to gee up the atmosphere.

This was a one off commercial thing, advertising dance classes by a third party - not Charlton Cheerleaders.

Just as fans singing is good, but the club trying to start chants off via the tannoy system would be wrong.
