Reading this entry whilst sitting outside Prague Castle chuckling my nuts off!
"With one foot in 1973 and the other also in 1973"
"Best castle" Particularly raised a laugh.
Nice work!1 -
Splendid stuff.1
-
First I've seen of the site - love it, great work.1
-
Really enjoyed the site - and I cant recommend the Pelton enough.0
-
I was born in Old Woolwich Road, just by that lovely old power station, the noise, the smell, brushing the soot from your hair and clothes after playing in the back yard.0
-
The Pelts is without a doubt one of the best pubs in London, end of.1
-
That's strange. I went to The Pelton Arms and then The Vanbrugh Tavern on Saturday. I have to say they were both great.0
-
Always enjoyed a drink in that part of Greenwich when I lived in Eltham, is the Star & Garter still going strong?0
-
Great blog.
"Great Train Journeys - London Bridge to Charing Cross" is hysterical
On it like a rash from now on1 -
Born and bread in East Greenwich and the piece is spot on.0

Yes: the article says it is firmly stuck in a 1970s timewarp: a rare Greenwich pub with a dartboard since the Prince Albert in Royal Hill was revamped. A couple of Friday nights ago I took an old pal on a crawl: Pelton, Cutty Sark, Yacht, Trafalgar Tavern, Spanish Galleon. Good ale in them all.Hastingsaddick said:Always enjoyed a drink in that part of Greenwich when I lived in Eltham, is the Star & Garter still going strong?
Incidentally, on the Sunday afternoon we went to the George, London's only surviving galleried coaching inn built in the 17th century, in a courtyard off Borough High Street. Price of one pint of Greene King IPA (3.6 per cent), one bottle of cider (5 per cent), and one bag of crisps? Eleven pounds and 15 pence, sir. Whaaaat?

Ouch! That is ridiculous.0
-
It is my new favourite website.1
-
As a resident of East Greenwich, and someone who can proudly call The Pelton his local (although definitely not the complainy kind, honest), I think you've pretty much nailed the area there. Well done sir. You're going right in my bookmarks.1
-
Fantastic. I've been living in East Greenwich (Maze Hill) for four years now, and this piece sums up the character of it perfectly. I think I'll pop down the Pelton tomorrow night as it goes!1
-
I feel a bit for The Crown, you know. They're doing a lot of things right, but they've got so much competition! It's hard to look past The Pelton.0

Vincenzo, as a former Herne Hillian, I absolutely love the article on The Half Moon and the other pubs/eateries. It's 100% spot on.
It's just occurred to me how many people I know in Herne Hill that have shared this on their FB timelines in the previous months and I didn't realise it was your site.
Cracking stuff.
As pointed out by Curb_It, the train journey from London Bridge to Charing X (text speak) is fantastic.

Thanks very much red. It's mine and a mate's site. He's (The Dulwich Raider) the expert on Herne Hill, having lived there himself for many years. Sad to see what's happened to The Half Moon.0

Great stuff, I've bookmarked your site now, really good.Vincenzo said:Thanks very much red. It's mine and a mate's site. He's (The Dulwich Raider) the expert on Herne Hill, having lived there himself for many years. Sad to see what's happened to The Half Moon.
Absolutely gutted about the Half Moon, it had everything that pub. A good music venue at the back, a proper random mix of people and amazing pizzas!. A sad loss to the community, was easily the best pub for miles around.0 -
You'll probably be interested in this new one then, Murph: http://deserter.co.uk/2014/10/pubwatch-herne-hill-dulwich/red_murph said:

Another great piece. Loved this line.. "You could say they are taking from the poor and giving to the rich. A bit like Robin Hood, if he’d been a c***." :0)Vincenzo said:

I'll share it on FB, Vincenzo. My mate Jill used to be the bar manager there, she'll be interested as will a good few others.0 -
It is an excellent site with really well written blogs and articles.
Shame to see about the Crown and Greyhound in Dulwich.
Vincenzo, try as I might I cannot find out much of what is planned for the Catford Bridge Tavern. I believe Tesco do not own the lease now. Do you have any further info?0 -
Some good info here from June here - http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/jun/26/dilemma-tesco-lose-money-land-rivalssirjohnhumphrey said:It is an excellent aside with really well written blogs and articles.

@sirjohnhumphrey
Interesting read that. I heard from a local that whoever owns it now (could still be Tesco) is rich enough to sit on it until the council's determination to keep it a pub wavers. In other words, they don't give a damn about the area and its people.
I couldn't verify that so it's not included in our piece on Catford which we published last night: http://deserter.co.uk/2014/11/the-twin-towers-of-catford/

Good blog on Erith.
