Who is this guy? I've never heard of him. Anyone got any opinions on him? What's his family like? Do we know if he uses the internet at all or has an agent?

When Charlton sneak through to the Champions League final after a narrow 1 nil win over Real Madrid in the semi, people will still be updating the Andy Delort thread....

Heading back to France on Jan

    I can't help myself...but...cheers Colin.
  • The sad thing about all this is that the outcome is that the player spends a year in Wigan not playing much in exchange for a huge pay rise that he will not waive when he moves back to France.

I know we don't, much, care for Wigan but this happens a lot, to many clubs (including us), and this is why football in this country is in such a mess.

In our recent past we've had Andy Gray, Moutouakil, McLeod and McCormack who have signed, after being hyped up, on more money than they were worth and hung around for a while on the big money before we, literally, had to pay them off to leave. Back in the Premier League you could argue that we took significant losses on Faye and Marcus Bent where we had to sweeten the deal to get them to walk away from serious money (wages).

If RD refuses to do this, and offers nothing else from the boardroom, he will save this club thousands and thousands of pounds compared to previous regimes, and other clubs. I know there are no sure fire safe bets in football, and you have to speculate to accumulate (signing Darren Bent for £3m when he was in the second division with Ipswich could have gone badly wrong but didn't!) but this madness has to end, otherwise English clubs will be subsidising players wages all over the world , after a short spell over here.

The problem was that it became all a bit of a media circus. Fortunately for us, we stepped away, refusing to give in to the unreasonable demands of Tours & his (many) agents. Wigan were a late comer to the party, just steaming in, giving it the big un with their parachute payments, rather than using that money to steady a sinking ship (which is what it's designed for), so I feel absolutely no sympathy towards them for not doing their homework........

The only trouble was , that it took so long to happen, (last day of transfers), that we failed to get any one else in. Perhaps a bit short-sighted by whoever was handling transfers, (RD)?

we had two other deals lined-up, contracts sorted with the players but they collapsed at the last minute with the Clubs concerned.

The only winners were idiots like me who were glued to the 10 Delort threads hitting refresh every 2 mins waiting for the official signing. Now, all I can hope for is we get 50 pages on this thread as a collective memory for all of us to look back on in years to come. We owe to him.

Names have never been announced I don't believe, but at the time rumors were that one was Bryan Ruiz

If you remember Chris Parkes was in the office till just before deadline to try and get something done

I don't know the names but it was documented then, and since, that this was the case.

  • I think i remember it being mentioned that both players were from clubs from overseas, which is what added to them not getting done in time, hopefully they are just on hold until January 1st.

Those deals falling through could also be linked to the Reza deal falling through, perhaps?

The club mentioned the two players here: http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/20140902-statement-on-transfers-1892779.aspx

Reza left early August so was long gone by then (though maybe we were hoping to sell him earlier than that and get a fee for him).

On the Sky Sports website, in the "Saturday's Paper Talk" section, it claims that The Sun is reporting that we're going to sign "Wigan flop Andy Delort" on loan.

Yep. Thread title needs to be amended urgently.

"This saga is ongoing. Abandon all other activity."

No. Surely no. The bloke who runs the Dr Kish website tells us that he met Karel Fraeye, the European Director of Network Scouting Services ( or similar) . And Mr Fraeye told him the bell is tolling for him or something.

So quite obviously it's a ridiculous idea that all Mr Fraeye could come up with for our striking needs is a bloke who bombed at Standard (and Lierse) and a bloke who was flogged by social media auction in the summer window, and has been shown to be completely inadequate for the championship.

As the old bat said, No.No.No.No.No.

The bloke who 'bombed at Lierse' scored 8 in 17.
