Yann Kermorgant - making an appearance at Lincoln (H) on Sat 5th April (p30)

Yann was on well under £500k a year at Charlton. He wanted an increase but mostly he wanted a two-and-a-half-year contract, which was not on the table. Whatever else went on, he was desperate to stay.
The bigger problem with it all, though, was that selling him - and what followed - damaged RD's reputation from the outset and he's never recovered the goodwill or the trust of a very large number of fans, which was evident again talking to people at the PotY.16 -
Perhaps getting of Yarn, was more a case of undermining Powell.Weegie Addick said:Chris Powell told Roland it was a no brainer to keep Yann, but Roland categorically refused on the basis that he had better options for us. Source? Chris Powell.

I haven't read everything on here but I thought he was terrific on Saturday. There was a lot of nonsense on here about how we were better off without him because he wouldn't play well in a passing side . Saturday showed that Bournemouth use him perfectly ; he is a quite brilliant link manAirman Brown said:Yann was on well under £500k a year at Charlton. I have little doubt that there was some if that going on - Roland stamping his authority.guinnessaddick said:

And certainly an indictment of the relationship that CP and RD had, being one of distrust.Weegie Addick said:

Think the sale of Yann/ refusal to listen to CP's advice was a significant cause of the distrust.Kap10 said:

And as Airman says above, still a reason why many fans have not been completely won over.

Don't think there was trust on either side from day 1. Events just confirmed and exacerbated it.Weegie Addick said:

Disagree, Kap. CP offered to do all he could to build that trust - go to visit RD in Belgium, talk about plans etc, but his views were not respected from day one. It became mutual distrust because of this.
Anyway, sublime performance by YK and we're all just left wondering what might have been...7 -
Pretty sure I read somewhere that CP did not expect to last in the job from day one, if I'm wrong, apologies.Weegie Addick said:Disagree, Kap. I don't wonder what might have been, whats been, has been.1 -
I think you are remembering from the interview in Trust News - he knew from the first week because of such discussions re Yann etc. He also said he tried all he could to make the relationship work.1

I think RD wanted to show us who was boss. The problem is, we don't mind him being the boss as long as we feel he knows what he is doing. That decision albeit in the early stages of his reign lost him a lot of trust. We know he would have been told by everybody around him who knew the club and Yann that it was a mistake - but he thought the Belgian League was stronger and Liege reserves would do the job. Fortunately Riga knew this wasn't the case and was given the autonomy to get the job done. Buyens has come out and said teh Championship is stronger and I think the owner may have grasped that fact by now.
What worries me is that his plan A is unlikely to succeed but with the added money the Premiership now offers and the position we find ourselves in, a plan B is possible. Will he have the vision to see the possibilities?

I have some exclusive Yann quotes following Saturday's game. Should be online tomorrow. He still loves us.5
-
He is absolutely shitfaced on their open top bus parade.
A Freddie flintoff moment.5 -
Everyone makes mistakes and RD made one there. Km has even admitted this on several occasions.
Yes he was great on Saturday and has just been named their players player of the year. I even spoke to him after the game and he said that he still regards us as home.
However, lets not keep dwelling on the past and try and move forward.3 -
I spoke to a player, who I would say is "reliable" at the POTY "do".
Yann wanted a 2.5 year contract and was only being offered a 1 year deal.
A pay rise was wanted, but wasn't critical, the term was.
Yann was also reluctant to sign, unless Chris Powell signed a new deal & obviously, that hadn't happened.
The player also confirmed, that Yann never refused to play for Charlton, against Huddersfield or any other team.22 -
Indeed - and this is despite the club's published claim that it offered Yann a two-year contract.Covered End said:I spoke to a player, who I would say is "reliable" at the POTY "do".

Perhaps they offered it (unlikely), when it was too late. IE he was literally about to sign for Bournemouth within the hour.Airman Brown said:

or a year with a year option, which some would define as a year and others two years.Covered End said:

Still all done and dusted now. We can only rehash this so much .... cant we

YK: "I’ll never forget the support I received from the fans here as a player here for Charlton and the good moments we have had together"

He's currently on my flight to Las Vegas.16

did you not speak to him?0

Ask him why he refused to play3

Sounds like your 'source' has been trumped according to a post on here in the last few days. Unless the player in question is telling fibs that is.nth london addick said:Ask him why he refused to play

My source was multiple people including players and staff, I will stick with that one2
-
No source here but as a guess he may have refused to play because it would reduce his chances of getting a better deal at Charlton or elsewhere
He put providing for his family as a higher priority than any moral obligation towards Charlton

The first and most important right of any employee.
The right to withdraw ones labour.

Ask him who he thinks his best replacement was.

Ask him, would he return to play for us.0

Ask him does he think he made the right decision to leave the Belgian circus to play Russian roulette with Bournemouth3
