Changing subject slightly I heard a whisper some time back now that Nicky Johns is not in the best of health. Is that right?

Don't think Garth Crooks likes us either.

Never heard him say anything nice about Charlton
  • I dont think Garth Crooks likes anybody.

    I absolutely loathe his analysis.

From what I understand, for many years Killer just thought of Charlton and any other club he played for as a former employer, no more, no less. In recent years he has warmed to the idea that he means so much to so many fans, and has a real affinity for the club.

He was a guest at a Bromley Addicks meeting a few years back.

He had had a serious car accident and wasn't able to work full time.

He was a very shy man who found it hard to fathom, after all these years, that people were interested in him as a footballer. He had never been back to the Valley and was a little bitter over how he had been treated by Palace following his injury.

A very complex man and not at all a "typical" footballer. That was a few years ago (Deano just beated his clean sheet record so must have been 2000) so I hope he's come thru it now.

Andy Townsend - not an ex-player but his dad was but never mentions it and never seems to have a good word to say about the club.

Nicky Johns is one of my all time fav players. Who can remember his display against Chelsea in the midweek 1-1 draw in the 80's? I think I'm right in saying that Ken Bates had agreed to bring the game forward to help us out financially (it was our biggest home game of the season)
