Listen to Simon Mayo most weekdays in the drive home from work, and with his 3 word days, i have 3 words for Callum.....Sheffield United..miss.!!

You know thats four words and he did kinda make up for it as his goals against Watford ensured we stayed in the Championship

Wish people would stip going on about that Sheffield United match, is like babies throwing toys out a pram cos we didnt get to go to Wembley!!
I always personally thought he was on the stretch too much for that miss. I didn't think it was as clear cut as everybody said it was. That game as a whole had so many clueless performers. I thought Harriott was probably one of the least accountable that day. Players like Jackson were shocking, nothing got said about him, we always talk about Harriott's miss because as a team we only created one decent chance

My toys are still well and truly out of the pram from that day, too many people within the club, past and present were involved in a power struggle irrelevant to the day and our hopes of a Wembley day out, which are about as good as we can ever expect, were the colatteral damage in a sad few weeks for the club.

The effort made by the supporters to get there due to the early kick off etc was far in excess to that displayed on the pitch and I still feel let down by them all.

The drive of shame away from the stadium back to the motorway under escort and abuse will live long in the memory.

I have forgiven but will never forget,

That said I have still got the hump about a boxing day gubbing away at Wimbledon in the late 80's so probably need to buck up and move on.
  • The whole mgmt squad and first team squad from that day need to accept that they failed as professional footballers and staff, how any one could not look into the away end that day and not feel motivated by the fans of our club or find an Ounce of personal pride and will to win will never leave me one of the lowest points of my supporting history, cowards the lot of them hiding behind an excuse,

One of the worst being Tudgay, who'd been thrown in to make his debut in that game.

Wasn't it Tudgay who put the ball across for Harriott to miss? I thought he did ok compared to the others

It used to piss me off years ago that we seemed to be assisting the recruitment strategy of teams like Spurs when they shelled out millions on players before another crap non achieving campaign while relying on us to clear out their deadwood . About time that we took a leaf out of Spurs' book - apart from the crap non achieving campaign - and started moving out some of our " time to move on " players to a smaller ,plucky little never going to do anything lower division club to help out with the financial aspect of our big money acquisitions : time for Millwall to step in for Harriot and for Gillingham to get the cheque book out for Pigott .

  • Some of that Spurs "deadwood" turned up trumps for us though didn't it.
Mike Flanagan being the best example. Luke Young was great for us, albeit we had to pay good money.
Martin Robinson was pretty good, and Terry Naylor proved there was still life in the old dog.
    Don McAllister did a job.
Less successful was Dennis "Beer Gut" Bond and probably others that I have expunged from my memory

Didn't we get Chris Perry from spurs too? He was excellent for us.

Don't forget the hero of the Battle of Stamford Bridge Paul Miller.

I remember Martin Robinson ,Don McAlister , Chris Jones and Garth Crooks all being either past it or not being up to much .Jones might have come to us via another club to be fair . I also remember Paul Miller putting in a number of decent performances but him always being of the view that he was too good for us .

This would be the Martin Robinson who scored one in four over 228 games? Or was it another one who passed me by completely?

Thank God Joe Gomez got out before having a poor spell and being ripped apart by twats who think they are Charlton fans!

CH is still a young lad and obviously a confidence player. He's shown what he can do and we've had enough dross over the years that had nothing to show in the first place.

We can all have an opinion on the player. It's the spite and the bile that's uncalled for.

I honestly wonder what people see when they go to games. He isnt very good at all, partly because he thinks in his own head he is better than what he is.But calling people twats who think they are charlton fans just for voicing there opinion is ridiculous, unless of course your actually harriotts dad and are sticking up for him.
Wondering whether to respond to you...will come back later after a few pints and decide whether you are actually worth the effort!

As you'll see from my original comment there are a few more likes than your solitary lol, so I'm not alone in my thinking. In the meantime, you bash away at your keyboard!!
Sorry you got more likes than me . You must be right. Please excuse me .
Had a few beers and decided....you really aren't worth the effort! You're excused by the way!

Garth Crooks kept us up in 87/88 - scored some crucial goals in back end of season.

Oh, I agree, and even McAllister wasn't a disaster. Don't know what Ashley is on.

No idea why I just sat through those highlights! Not seen them back since the game. I feel a bit sick now. I was arguing with someone the other day saying it was 2-1! could have sworn we pulled one back, shows how steaming I was i think.

The miss wasn't THAT bad i mean it was quite difficult!

What price does a young, talented but inconsistent left footed winger command these days? I'd be surprised if he went for more than £500k upfront.

I'd be amazed if if was close to that including add ons. Probably a low 6 figure sum with modest sell on clause.

I would guess it'd be less than that upfront but add-ons for games played, promotion etc to bring it up to around that.

I would hope that it has a decent sell on fee as he is far from the finished article and could still go on to make some of our fans look rather silly going on some comments I have read about the lad (which he still very much is)

The guys an absolute plonker. He is far too inconsistent. Love the way way people comment and they are the 'odd game a season' fans. Get a season ticket, watch players on a regular basis then we'll talk.
