I remember we played Dagenham & Redbridge in the JPT in 2010, Paul Benson made his debut for us, Therry Racon scored the winner and Danny Green was the best player on the pitch that night.

Hopefully this will be better then the FA cup when they were non league and should have knocked us out.

You sure that wasn't a dream, Sheedy ?

  • I've never liked teams with ampersands in their name. I hope we thrash them.

Benson had only signed the day before I think, in time to be registered to play for us but too late for the programme team, who had him featured as one of Dagenham's players to watch.

Club starts season with an own goal - season ticket renewers should get this game included for free. The risk of reducing the take on the night is negligible cos interest in this match is tiny, the paying crowd will be tiny. They have to try it at least once. IF the weather's good, the kids are still on school holidays, the walk up attendance could be vastly increased and with it the afterspend. Chances are Charlton will win the game and the punters feel like they got smthn for nuthin - everyone's a winner. With the new card activated turnstyles it's also no hassle with tickets etc. I think the intangible 'feel good' benefits would be considerable for zero outlay.

Competition rules limit the number of complimentary tickets. What this means is that Charlton would have to pay D&R - and the Football League - for every season-ticket holder that turned up, as well as wiping off the revenue they would have got from the season-ticket holders who would pay. So say for example 4,000 season-ticket holders come, of which 2,500 would have come anyway and let's assume the split is 45-45-10 (after expenses). The average net revenue per ticket is about £6.

That means Charlton have to pay out £3.30 for every ST attending (£13,200) and forfeit £2.70 more that they would have got from those who would have come anyway (£6,750), i.e. a total cost to the club of £20k. The ancillary spend, especially with the shop and catering outsourced and a reduced Valley Review, is probably worth about £1 a head profit after cost of sale.

I think the bigger flaw, however, is the idea that people don't go because of the prices (which IMO are spot on). They mostly don't go because they aren't interested in watching this match, so pricing is irrelevant.

We need to talk this match up, and give reasons for people to come.
Maybe it will be to reveal a new star, or play youngsters, or perhaps Guy Luzon could be secretly on purpose filmed by the Valley pitch hire crew, going round Wayne Burnett's house and calling him out, declaring that the Addicks are the pride of East London and a sword can best a dagger any day.
    Youtube sensation in the making.

Tickets on sale at 9am tomorrow.

I think this one is going to sell out, so get them while you still can.

Any chance I can use someone's valley gold number rather than risk waiting for general sale?
  • I always boycott opponents with an ampersand in their name. Sorry, Brighton. And, if Havant & Waterlooville or Walton & Hersham should find themselves at The Valley in their "cup final" in the FA Cup 3rd round, don't expect me to be there.

Come on own up... Which bastard on here did it?

Went to sleep in my tent last night safely in the queue for the ticket office so I could get my ticket for the Dagenham match, woke up this morning and someone has carried me in my tent to the end of the bloody line for the new away kit and am outside the Superstore!!!
