Oxford will be in the West Ham squad this year. Played a lot pre season so can't see a loan happening at all.
  • I am pretty sure it was reece burke as he is a defender who can play centre half and right back

    More from Ketts.

    MORE DEPARTURES THAN ARRIVALS
    09-Aug 21:27, by Ketts
It promises to be another fascinating week behind the scenes at The Valley.

Joe Pigott completed a loan deal to Southend until January at the end of last week. The young striker does not figure in Guy Luzon's plans but is on Phil Brown's wanted list. It would be no surprise if the move was made permanent in January.

Rhoys Wiggins signed a three-year contract with Sheffield Wednesday last week, and there are still some players who are unlikely to feature at The Valley.

Andre Bikey will not play in the first team, and Callum Harriott was not involved against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. The futures of Reza Ghoochannejhad and Loic Nego also look uncertain.

Are there likely to be any imminent arrivals in SE7? Probably not.

Stephen Henderson is ruled out for the next few weeks, leaving Nick Pope as the only fit senior keeper currently at the club. Untried 18-year-old, Dimitar Mitov, was on the bench against QPR.

It is no secret that Charlton want to bring in an experienced keeper on a short term deal but that may prove problematical.

Stuart Taylor has been training at Sparrows Lane, but at this time of the season, a keeper like Taylor would be looking for a 12-month deal and a decent financial package.

Effectively, the keeper would be unlikely to play unless Pope got injured, so it is hardly an attractive proposition. It is possible the Addicks could continue as they are, unless Pope gets injured.

West Ham's utility defender, Reece Burke, was thought to be on Luzon's wanted list to provide cover for Chris Solly.

At this moment in time, Luzon could deploy Loic Nego or Aaron Barnes to deputise for Solly. At Bolton, the highly rated Regan Charles-Cook came in for Solly.

Again, any newcomer would only get limited game time unless Solly encounters further injury problems.

Would it be making best use of club funds to bring in a player who was not going to be a regular in the team? It may be more prudent to enter the emergency loan market if need be.

James Henry has been a Charlton target for much of the summer. Wolves realise Henry will not extend his stay at Molineux when his contract expires next summer.

Kenny Jackett is keen to cash in now, rather than see the player walk away for nothing in a year's time. The fee for Henry could be utilised by Wolves to source a replacement.

The Addicks will be anxious not to pay over the odds for a player that will be available for free next summer.

The clubs are likely to continue bartering. Both of them, as well as the player, want the move to happen, so it may well go through, although it could be deep into the window before it is concluded.

We will bide our time with Henry ... pretty certain by Sept 1st he will be a Charlton player ... Not sure we will wait till Jan

Luzon has said that if Wolves mess him about he will look elsewhere which I think they may need to start doing. Henry would be good but I doubt he is the only target for that position and doesn't sound like he is.

  • It's pretty funny that we have gone from to many goalkeepers to not enough!
  • From our starting strike force on Saturday we had one who most agree is not going to be prolific and the other an 18 yo struggling to make an impact. On the bench TW has never looked like lasting 90 minutes since he joined. Igor is injured and is recovering from long term achilles. Only alternative just gone on loan until January.

I think we need a striker!

Really think we need some experienced right back cover unless Solly's knees are a medical miracle!

His agent says personal details have been agreed and that the player wants to come back South ... And had told Wolves he is not signing a new contract just can't see wolves holding onto him till Jan when his fee will be halved

What sort of ballpark fee are we talking if we sign him now ? Can't be much surely ?

£250k is what we want to pay, £500k is what they want according to an unreliable source.

Imagine it will depend on who blinks first.

£250k does seem a bit cheap for a player like Henry. Think £500k is reasonable personally - even with a year left on contract. Really do rate him.

considering what we got for Wiggins, 500k is very decent.

Did we actually get £750k for him ? Astonishing bit of business if so.

5k a week contract, for 3 years, which is what he had left on his deal, so not that astonishing, they basically bought out the rest of his contract with us with nothing else on top

yeah but it doesn't work like that does it. We get the £750k now, so means we can use the wages elsewhere on top of the fee.

I'm not saying we don't get the money to spend, I'm just saying it's not an "astonishing" fee for a player in the championship, and to prove the point, broke it down into something relatable. If the rumours are correct then that will cover the fee and probably a years wage for an incoming winger, something we lack, whilst not weakening our own team through the sale, as Fox, Bergdich and in the future THD and Edwards will be more than enough

I agree its not an "astonishing" fee, but 750k for a player with the injury problems he has had over the last couple of seasons is a decent bit of business. Yeah it does seem likely it's just his wages, but transfer fees don't work like that do they, its just the value of a player itself that is represented by the fee, and 750k for Wiggins was good stuff for the club.

So you could argue that its effectively a 1.5m 'income' over the 3 years (up front fee and then the saving on the wages)

A bit puzzled by this, do we really need Henry ? If he is so keen to come he must think he's going to play every week. haven't we got a fairly decent Icelandic winger who plays on the right who many consider to be one of the best players in the championship ?

    He's a right winger.
If he come to CAFC he will have to learn to play on the left unless Johann is injured.
I can remember him playing as an attacking mid fielder as well.
