Not a rumour but confirmation that Staunton and Aribo who we had on trial during preseason have signed and both turned out for the u21s...

Euell said he thought Aribo could get into the first team squad this season so we might possibly see him on the bench at some point this year... especially if we don't get another winger in...

Disappointed we didn't sign Sinclair as well! He seemed to have something about him.

does that confirm they have signed? can they not turn out for the U-21's as triallists?

That's a good point! I hadn't Thought of that.. I suppose it is possible and I haven't seen anything on the OS about them signing so I guess we don't know...

They could but Staunton was confirmed in the handbook. Guess Aribo could still be on trial though.

Not a rumour but a prediction. JJ will go out on loan. Just get the feeling his game time will be limited. He knows that, is in the later years of his career and I think he'll want to get as many minutes as possible.

    Free transfer come Jan ...

It actually wouldn't surprise me, a la Morrison. Duchatelet doesn't like paying players who aren't playing, that's been quite evident.

Can't believe I just agreed with Colin...

My point is Jackson is only going to play cup matches he is not going to dis lodge Cousins Ba or Kashi in mid ..... He himself will most likely come jan want to play more games so I expect S a gesture for his service to the club they will let him go on a free

And a loan before that imo

It's a long season and footballs a strange game, just because Jacko's not starting now doesn't mean he won't be months or even weeks down the line.

  • Kashi's efforts and enthusiasm will see him pick up suspensions, if Jackson goes who would take that spot on the bench cos even if Ceballos is ahead of him too, thats still a spot we're missing.

We may have players who are good enough for the Squad yet cant make the bench but isnt that what we want, isnt that where our weakness has been these last few years?
  • Jacko is held in very high regard by the Duchatelet regime.

I've always thought Leon Best was shite

He has the talent, even had a purple patch in the prem with Newcastle a few seasons back. Just rarely seems arsed to put himself about, which is a shame as that's his real strength.

I'm not disagreeing with anything anyone has said above re: Jacko. I just think he'll want to get game time and ask for a loan. I'm not saying we won't miss him, not saying he can't add to our game both on and off the pitch, just wouldn't be surprised if his desire to play and make the most of his last few seasons were a priority for him

In my opinion jacko won't leave the club unless dragged kicking and screaming! You need four CMs over the course of a season.. Ceballos is seen more as a winger type probably as back up to JBG so I wouldn't count him. Diarra looks set to be playing CB for most if not all the season so I wouldn't count him.

That leaves Cousins/Ba as box to box options and Kashi/Jacko as holding options.

If Kashi gets injured he will come in and do a good job for us no doubt!

Luzon likes to rotate so don't kid yourself he won't get any game time!!!

Last year we had Cousins Buyers Jacko and Coq as CMs. When the Coq got recalled we were suddenly very short on CMs...

Jacko will not be leaving and he still has a role toat as a squad player. Rotation/cover at the very least!

All of this is without his off the field influence in the Andy Hughes role.

Good luck Astrit! Doubt he will end up in England, but will do a good job somewhere where he doesn't have to run around too much.
Turnstile operator? Then he'll have had the reverse career path of Robert Lee.

AA is a 10 not a CM so comparisons with Jacko are pointless, AA was one of the most technically gifted players we have had in the last 10 seasons and I would not mind him back

Most technically gifted! You have to be joking.
Who would you say has been more technically gifted in the last ten years? Genuinely interested, your shock seems to imply you can think of loads and loads. There's Andy Reid, Jerome Thomas if you're feeling generous and Darren Ambrose if you're feeling like a debate but other than that I'm struggling
Not forgetting a certain JBG. Still, I agree, Astrit was one of our more technically gifted players.

Jacko is held in very high regard by the Duchatelet regime.

Probably because he was the one that kept the club together throughout the Powell sacking debacle.

Colin I do appreciate your posts on here but your hatred of Jacko is just bizarre - any opportunity

    Sacking debacle ???

sacking a manager before a quarter final of a major competition, then 24 hours later hiring your mate with relatively no managerial experience to replace him, if i was in the playing staff i would've thought "fuck this". Jacko i'm led to believe made sure riga felt settled as quickly as possible and made sure he and the rest of the senior players led the team to stay together to keep the club up.

Think you are doing a massive disservice to Riga here.

Jacko still has a big role to play for the club, not least as one of the very few genuinely experienced players we have - unless I'm forgetting someone, isn't it just him and Diarra left that are north of 30 now?

He will likely have to settle for more of a bit part role, initially at least, but Jacko has been written off before only to go on and confound his critics and he is still an excellent pro and of tough enough character that there might prove to be life left in the old dog yet.

That said, the scenario put forward by Colin is not that far fetched. If he has been restricted to a handful of appearances by Christmas he may feel he wants to move on and play football. I'm sure it would be a wretch for him as I think he found a good home for himself here but given he is probably one of our best ever captains, taking into account his on field and off field actions, the club would be hard pressed to justify standing in his way and he still has plenty to offer the right club so I'm sure he could find a new team without too much trouble.

Exactly - but some want to disagree with Colin because he is Colin. Seriously - if Colin said our pitch was green, a few on here would vigorously claim it is purple.
