Wonder why Bairstow has been dropped? Can only think so he can concentrate on longer form of the game....1

Australia minus Finch and Faulkner will be more attainable now. Should be a close tournament.1

Was thinking of trying to go to a game, but the only one down sarf is at the Rose Bowl, which is a pain to get to by public transport, especially as its a day/night game. The 3rd and 4th matches (Headingley/OT) are sold out, while the 2nd match (also at OT) is a day/night match that clashes with the England Switzerland game...0

That's the major problem with Rose Bowl - fantastic ground but only really accessible by car (just off M27) - did enquire about getting one of the new Hotel Rooms there for works do, but was quoted 600 pounds EACH person - phone quickly put down as I had to pick up my jaw.killerandflash said:Was thinking of trying to go to a game, but the only one down sarf is at the Rose Bowl, which is a pain to get to by public transport, especially as its a day/night game. A mate of mine stayed there for a T20, £90 a night and he said it was absolutely amazing. Would need to be a pretty special game for me to cough up £600, play off final maybe!!The_President said:

You can get tickets for Lords on Viagogo. They usually get cheaper as the event gets closer.killerandflash said:Was thinking of trying to go to a game, but the only one down sarf is at the Rose Bowl, which is a pain to get to by public transport, especially as its a day/night game. You were obviously sat very near me! Gate 18....I think I was a few rows further back (row 20) than you, unless you have cropped these in?Chrissy\\\'s Army!! said:A few pictures from my day at The Oval yesterday. Obviously disappointing that we didn't get to see much cricket but it was a great day none the less. Got very drunk! There is something very special about a day at the cricket, especially an ashes test match!

Topley isn't exactly in blinding form, maybe he's in the set up for experience?0
-
Topley is regarded as the best bet for the left-arm quick that we have been crying out for.0
-
Sam Curran anyone?The_President said:Topley is regarded as the best bet for the left-arm quick that we have been crying out for.
17 and already Surreys go to man with the ball and is chipping in with the bat!
Left arm 85 mph a good grip of seam bowling as well as swing both conventional and reverse!
I usually talk up young players for Surrey and Charlton but I cannot emphasise how good this kid is!
It's like when gomez first came through except I think he's had more of an impact on the side!1 -
I saw Curran the other week, and thought he looked promising - but he looked tiny. Didn't come over as being someone who bowl in excess of 80 (at the moment).0

His scores for the Aussies are far too low. Rogers averages 60 and gets a 7, Nevill marked worse than Buttler who was terrible with the bat, Hazelwood 3.5 despite taking 16 wickets at 25...etcThe_President said:Swann's Ashes marks out of 10...

Maybe should balance it off with Warne's marks, where he picked Voges in his Ashes team !killerandflash said:

I'm afraid that until Swann grows up takes his very fortunate position more seriously, his words count for nothing as far as I'm concerned.4

I must admit, not often I agree with you Riv, but I'm gonna 'like' this.Riviera said:I'm afraid that until Swann grows up takes his very fortunate position more seriously, his words count for nothing as far as I'm concerned.

And also his rubbish way of leaving the Ashes in OZ mid-tour.Riviera said:I'm afraid that until Swann grows up takes his very fortunate position more seriously, his words count for nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Best not keep the girls out of this thread, but England have a chance of regaining the Ashes for the girls too..

There is only one Ashes.1

On sky the other day he was consistently over 80 often hitting 85mph! That's Sam. Tom is slower...The_President said:I saw Curran the other week, and thought he looked promising - but he looked tiny. Didn't come over as being someone who bowl in excess of 80 (at the moment).

We need bowlers exceeding 90mph, not 80!3
-
Sam Curran needs filling out ( a lot)1
-
My point was he's only 17! Too early now.. he's got huge potential but needs to develop a lot more. Once he fills out he will be able to bowl quicker and he has a lot more to his bowling than just bowling quick! He is also very good with the bat.Riviera said:We need bowlers exceeding 90mph, not 80!

Talking about bowlers at 90+. if you look at Johnson, his approach is negligible, but he generates all his speed through his body action at delivery - has a very wide stance at delivery but is able to generate most of his pace through his slingy action.
Really surprised he has been able to stay fit for so long - with someone with that action, you would expect side strains and ankle/knee problems off front foot to be a regular occurrence.1
