    If her only contribution is to once a year dictate to the nation about austerity, while sat on a golden chair.. Maybe it's time to scrap the royals ?. I understand they are good for tourism, but so is a museum or theme park

    No. They changed the rules of succession so that the first born will take the throne, not the first born boy. Thus, even though it is Charles, William then George if George's first born is a girl then she would be Queen. I suspect that none of us will see that, however.
    Who knows what gender George will choose to identify with when he's older? It's the 21st century for god sake.

    I reached the milestone age of 60 just over a month ago and its incredible to note that the Queen has been on the throne for the whole of my life and then some. All of those years she has been a constant, reassuring, regal and heart-warming presence through much tumult and change. I am all for royalty and the immediate royal family (although I do think the list of hangers on needs some pruning) - long live her Majesty, I hope she continues to reign in good health and happiness.

    Yeah, if she lives to be 100 she'll get a birthday card from the Queen. If that doesn't motivate her to last that long I don't know what will.

    When they changed the law on gay marriage did it apply to the royal family?
    If young George gay married a bloke would we have two kings?
    How would it work?

    Adoption would be the tricky one, as I guess they aren't of 'royal blood' but are part of the royal family.

    Especially as after he was crowned king, he announce he was a trans woman.
    Would he/she have to be crowned again?
