Supporters trust meet with KM and RM
"Following last week's fans' meeting, Steve Clarke has met with Richard Murray and Katrien Meire to discuss how the strategic objectives outlined that evening can be taken forward.
The Club is keen to emphasise the progress being made behind these objectives and the Supporters' Trust recognises that and supports the concepts. However the current frustration of fans emphasises that this is just the beginning and there is a need for more demonstrable action.
After some discussion between Richard, Katrien and Steve, the following ideas were outlined:
- Target 20,000 - The group will look to draw on the extensive experience of those who have worked with the Club on a similar basis in the past together with seeking contributions from across our entire fan base in order to give the initiative the widest possible focus.
- A group to look at strategic development, involving senior Club staff and fans - with the potential to bring in support from the wider Charlton community aiming to capture additional business acumen, specialist skills and fresh ideas.
- Fans' Forum - examine the role the group should play in a revamped structure and how it can contribute to projects such as Target 20,000. Also to consider how the overall supporters experience can be improved, alongside addressing day to day issues as and when they occur.
The Trust welcomes these developments and believes this signals valuable progress. But, we must not hide from the views of our members and many other supporters. The mood is that fans want change.
We think the above plan is a start. It now needs action and we are committed to engage in this process, making sure we communicate regularly along the way."

You are joking. What a sell out. The Trust just after personal involvement. Why build the club for them. Amazing. Disgrace.9
-
Just out for self reward, it's a sham & it annoys me that they 'speak for the fanbase' - nothing but yes men6
-
Again the club can't. If they ignore the trust they are wrong, now they want to involve the trust and that is also wrong.3
-
-
doesn't the B&W campaign seek dialogue ?4
-
Well done The Trust.
Obviously great news. Discussion is the only way forward. I'm all for demonstrations, protests, in order to get some discussion. So we have ALL been successful.
Enjoy OUR success and please stop sniping, at your fellow supporters, it achieves nothing and weakens our cause.

Well I certainly hope so, because there are many fans/former employees that have some excellent knowledge and skill sets to help the club and 'Airman' in the past has offered his services, as I am sure quite a few people who would be prepared to do so, but as the message states"...... The mood is that fans want change'.ElfsborgAddick said:

Those 'ideas' bug me, basically just a way of rounding the fans to stop the decline in the attendances. I'm afraid I don't agree with them, why would RD change his approach if he has a large pool of, week in week out, attending fans? He wouldn't. It also wins KM a lot of fans over because she is pleasing fans by 'doing something', but to me it's papering over cracks.
Sorry trust but don't agree with this approach, personally. Don't lick the boot that kicks you. I don't think it's much of a start, I think the plans a big win for KM and a tiny win, if that, for fans. I may be the minority, or completely on my own in the view. Why are we protesting against them in the stands and helping them elsewhere? Plus also, I think it's fighting a losing battle - if the same people battling to get attendances are protesting against the current owners and what they stand for, how would they be able to rope in new fans?
The ONLY matter of concern should be the the matter of how our Football Club is going to progress under this regime, as I can only see one way it's heding. The rest will slowly work itself out if we become an attractive prospect for neutrals, with the help of football for a fiver etc.8 -
What a surprise.
And I was shouted down for daring to reveal that just such a meeting was scheduled before the Trust AGM.
Great that the dialogue is taking place, great that target 20k is happening, shame that the fact that such a meeting had already been arranged had to be kept from not only trust members not at the AGM but those fans who attended the Q and A meeting week before last.

Yes no wonder the club were given an easy ride at the fans meeting. One has to question the integrity of the Trust Board.9

It wasn't scheduled before the Trust AGM though...Henry Irving said:What a surprise.

When was it scheduled then?
Why if it wasn't scheduled before the AGM did three people tell me that just such a meeting was talked about at the AGM?
When were the others fans at the Q and A told about it?

Can someone explain what the target 20,000?
Attendances are obviously falling, partly because of results and partly because of the way the club is being run, and the trust are now helping the club get more people through the gates?1 -
It wasn't even scheduled before the fans' meeting last week Henry, but don't let the facts spoil a good story now.Henry Irving said:What a surprise.

Damn the trust! Damn them and their willingness to make this a successful football club, even if we don't like the owners! Damn them all to hell!20

Target 20k? Do me a favour.0

Not going to get into a long one on this, but we have had a mandate from February to seek dialogue. That was affirmed by a recent survey and again at the Trust AGM. It's been a long game because, and it's no secret, the club weren't too keen. Now we've finally got a start to what we were asked to do, and I think we're perfectly placed to lead on this aspect. Others are better placed to lead on other types of action.
I know people love a conspiracy theory, but really it's not more complicated than that.4 -

Surely target 20k is the least of our priorities now, there are a number of issues with the ownership and running it from the club that will prevent it from increasing attendances in the first place. These problems need to be sorted out first.
Glad there is dialogue with the Trust but can't help but be cynical and feel they are being sucked in rather that trying to sort the problems that are causing disillusionment and apathy with supporters.2 -
The real surprise is that it took longer than 5 minutes before this thread became the people's front of judea versus the judean people's front.33
-
If this was indeed the meeting you made reference to leading up to the Q & A, which I believe was denied by certain individuals with a smokescreen about a catch up meeting that had already taken place but was not scheduled and was just tagged on to a VG meeting I believe, then for me the Trust has damaged their credibility, perhaps irreparably for me.Henry Irving said:What a surprise.

If true it just smacks of self-interest and self-importance - damn the rest.
I would add that I see this as a good thing, but the manner of communication by the Trust and the chronology (again, if true) concerns me greatly.1 -
Well done, as said 'a start' and things starting to pigeon step in the right direction. Starting to feel that going forward, there may potentially be a more positive impact on off field issues / discontentment, but I'm still highly dubious if any chip had been made in the bigger wall regarding manager / recruitment approach etc
Shame most responses so far seem dictated by pre-determined sniping, but hopefully most can see through that.23 -
My concern is that we get paid lip service and how much is taken on board by Meire from the fans.Henry Irving said:What a surprise.

We need to be sceptical and look to see if the Belgians work WITH US.
The cynic in me says they will try to pacify us by making the right noises. I hope I'm wrong.2 -
it's a real mess isn't it. I can see why the Trust want dialogue and I understand why some want to protest. I just don't see the dialogue leading anywhere, I just see it as lip service by the Club so it appears they are listening/willing to change but ultimately nothing will change except some loyal fans will be used to do the work the Club should be doing. I hope I'm wrong but won't hold my breath unless by some miracle they invite Airman Brown and Wendy Perfect to the table and then I may change my view.8

So, reading between the lines, the campaigns go on until such time as tangible progress has been made ?rikofold said:Not going to get into a long one on this, but we have had a mandate from February to seek dialogue. Good luck to the Trust getting 20000 through the Gate.0
-
Well done and a bit of progress.
As long as the trust and the board are COMPLETELY transparent about what is said at these meetings then I've got no problem about knowing exactly how they were arranged.
Think some on here need to take a step back and chill a bit.4
