right, I have wasted about half an hour listening again and again to two versions of "for once in my life" trying to decide which is better, Stevie Wonders or Frank Sinatra's. (totally given up with work)

as they're completely different but equally brilliant It was quite obvious a draw would be the conclusion. however, purely because of its ending, saying the second to last line twice, just gave Sinatra the edge. well done Frank. commiserations Steve, so close.

    The new Bowie offering.

    What's your verdict IA?
I'll be purchasing in the next week or two
Listened to it twice and I think it's a v good - more Low than Ziggy, but with a contemporary feel - If you liked the Berlin stuff then you will love this. There are a couple of really cracking songs as well.

Totally different direction and feel to the Next Day (which I also liked) - once again Bowie has reinvented himself. The man is a God!

Heard it a couple of times now ...way better than I dared hope.

    Original Mirrors - Original Mirrors

This band had far too brief a life - some brilliant songs. Ian Broudie went on to greater success.

I Wish I Was Someone Better - Blood Red Shoes

Forgot what a great piece of heavy, alternative guitar pop it is.

Bashed out - This is the Kit
I went to see them last night, great band, lyrically really clever, quirky vocals and a great guitarist. I think they are in Guildford Friday night, recommended.

Another retro week for me. Stuck on some eighties compilation on saturday morning and ran into Whip It by Devo. I am now playing New Traditionalists, one of my favourite Devo albums. Beautiful World is fabulous, but for real hard core Devo fans, the classic is Going Under.

    Blackstar - David Bowie

Gave this a few listens now - it really is a good album.

Seems very sad at first, but is actually quite contemplative. The lyrics of 'Dollar Days' seem to talk to the past but also openly acknowledge his pending death ...very poignant.
