So it seems like RM trying to undermine the Varney potential deal in an effort to get his own buyers in so he can keep his place at the table.11

Another pathological LIAR.Airman Brown said:
Murray will have guessed it was a takeover. He was bragging he had stopped it before Christmas. Then he claimed he knew nothing about it. Then it was pointed out to him he was copied into the emails.PassItToLeaburn said:
Inept as Meire is, it does sound as though for some reason Murray has had a major role to play in this meeting never happening.Henry Irving said:Roland caught between a rock and a hard place.
If we go down the price plummets.
If we stay up he has to deal with FFP limit going up to £13m meaning his break even model looks even more infeasible.
IF only Varney had approached Roland back last August when the team was top six and so the price would have been at it's highest.....Oh, yeah he did but KM wasted six months avoiding the meeting while the team, and so the price, went on a massive slide.5 -

regardless, if RM is putting together or is part of a consortium then that suggests that he believes RD is willing to sell.Airman Brown said:
Yes, but I don't think that group has the money. Bear in mind that Murray's been backing the wrong horse since 2006.carly burn said:Airman, a couple of weeks ago I heard that Murray himself had some involvement in another interested group. You heard anything of the sort?
He said in the interview that he wasn't ready to sell "yet" and that there had been many offers.
So maybe the door is ajar, if not fully open.10 -
I hope so, for all our sakes. I mean, this whole (self created) debacle can't be fun for RD or KM....surely if he were to wash his hands of his failed project and just enjoy what time he has left in his old age it would be much better for his health.....and ours!Henry Irving said:

Maybe RM likes his cushy little faux director number and fears Varney's investors will out him if they bought the club.21
-
It does make you wonder if Roland despite his claims of the club not being for sale really does not understand how serious this offer is.
As if his knowledge of Varney is purely from RM and KM, one who is desperate to just stay involved it would seem and the other knowing she will be one of the first people to be shown the door under a new ownership and is unlikely ever to get a job as big as she has now, it does look like they are both trying to protect their own interests at the expense of what is best for our club.11 -
Hopefully it is Roland trying to push up the price by suggesting he is not in a rush to sell.Henry Irving said:

Out of interest, does Murray work at the Valley during the week, or just turn up on match days so he can swan about the place?1
-
We have to make things as unworkable as possible for the Belgians and RM next season.
13000 at The Valley for Cardiff game (NOT incl away fans & 3000 giveaways) means there were 10,000 ST and 3000 walk-ups.
How many ST next year ?
5000 (max) is my guess - Plus however many walk-ups who want to see the likes of Scunny and Port Vale.
See how your financial model looks then, Roland.5 -
Thanks for clarifying that AB. I just wanted to be sure because it is such a bizarre thing for her to have done.
So Katrien is full of hot air then. Can bluster in the street but won't really discuss things properly in a proper meeting. What a surprise, who'd have thought it, and what CEO in their right mind would follow such a silly course of action?
I really cannot believe how poor her judgement is. And for Roland to come out and support her just shows what sort of ludicrous state the club is in.
God help us.

If Roly likes her as much as he claims, I'm sure he will find her another job within the network. I suspect she likes feeling like a big-shot running a decent sized English club though. Any of RD's other clubs would be a huge step-down and will lower her profile dramatically. I'm not sure her ego would like that very much.GretnaGreenAddick said:It does make you wonder if Roland despite his claims of the club not being for sale really does not understand how serious this offer is.

Dear oh dear.
I hope this gets into the national media too, to further highlight the ineptitude and double-dealing of the regime.
How can anyone who sees/read this stuff still a) have faith in the regime or b) believe there is no alternative to them, is totally beyond me.
Yet I still heard it quite a lot on Saturday. "I don't like them either but there's no-one else out there who will buy us". Wrong, wrong, wrong. How on earth do we reach people who don't join or read fora like CL, don't buy/read VOTV, don't appear to use the internet at all, don't appear to read the local or national press? How can they be so ill-informed?
I suspect we would have to pay for a prime-time TV ad in the middle of Coronation Street, with PV and his associates filmed counting £50m in nice crisp £100s - and even then they wouldn't believe it.22 -

100% likely to West country Addick question. (but more likely to get his millions back)3 -
Mr Murray Div1 trap door is wide open the chance of you getting ANY of your money back is slight. Time to stop being part of the road block and assist in getting a new owner, you might even get some dosh back. The worst that can happen? You loose it all like all the other shareholders !!!11

Probably making sure that the napkins were folded correctly for the directors' meal - nothing else springs to my mind....
The main bulk of the catering staff & management used to get to The Valley around the 7.30 - 7.45am mark for a Saturday match day.
Very rarely would Peter Varney not be on site by the time we arrived, as for checking napkins PV would walk the lounges, check the kiosks and concourses and anything else that caught his eye! I have a huge respect for the way PV ran the club and believe me he missed very little that went on at the Valley and that applied to all departments - a simply brilliant and motivational CEO and as a general rule fantastic to work for.58 -

If he was a normal owner you would be on your knees begging PV to talk to you at the least if not work for you.4 -
She comes across as both arrogant and lazy. I struggle to see what she actually does.1

Would us going down increase the chance of a sale? If so, keep doing what you're doing literally everyone involved with the club. Keep doing what you're doing.1

When and why did Murray and Varney fall out?1
-
Not if you think like RolandGarrymanilow said:Would us going down increase the chance of a sale?
Firstly the price any sensible person is likely to pay would drop considerably. Remember the spivs paid £1 plus taking on the £7m debt and the on-going losses.
Secondly Roland "doesn't do failure" so he might want to stick around longer to prove his model works and he can afford to lose money for years.
He might sack Katrien though so not all bad news

If I really thought it would trigger a sale, I would positively welcome relegation.
Terrible to think and say it, but true for me.30 -
Surely he would have done this by now if he was going to?Henry Irving said:

Same. But I think that if we are relegated Roland will lose too much money to consider selling. If we stay up, he'll think that his strategy is working and will not want to sell either. Unless someone can get in front of him with an offer he cannot refuse, I think we are stuck with him for the foreseeable. It scares the crap out of me to think we could be heading into League One with this lot in charge.Davo55 said:If I really thought it would trigger a sale, I would positively welcome relegation.

Me too - I'd much rather normal owners trying to do well in League 1 than scraping survival and another season of Douchonomics football in the Championship.Davo55 said:If I really thought it would trigger a sale, I would positively welcome relegation.

Sadly I think it'll be the latter except in Lge 1.0 -
The issue as I see it is that Roland is a wealthy man who is looking to build his football network in order to prove his vision of how clubs can run works - so an offer that can't be refused would be a figure that no-one is realistically going to offer for Charlton.WestCountryAddick said:

He's non-exec. So presumably just pitches up for the occasional board meeting and the games.mistrollingin said:Out of interest, does Murray work at the Valley during the week, or just turn up on match days so he can swan about the place?
If any of the Uni camera operators are reading, I understand he is desperate to be chosen for the sofa or to win a box of pies.9 -

Undoubtedly a brilliant CEO, his record speaks for itself.
The napkin thing is what you would, actually, expect a really hands on executive to be checking, at least in passing.4
