After a night's sleep, I thought I'd address some of the comments about the price of the POTY dinner. In the first 6 pages of this thread, there were numerous grumbles, (if not outright bitches) about the £37 that it cost.
So here goes...
How many of us (myself included) have spent more than £37 to see there favourite singer/band/comedian/entertainer at the O2, Royal Albert Hall or somewhere else?
And what do you get? A night of singing/air guitar/laughter, and you hopefully go away feeling you've been entertained, and had value for your money. But you have to pay extra if you want to eat.
And for this, you have had no direct interaction with the "entertainers" involved, besides a vague yelling at the stage, and maybe a wave/vague acknowledgement of your presence.
What did I get last night? Direct communication with my selected entertainer. A firm handshake, eye - to - eye contact, and an ability to ask any question of that person I wanted. No guarantee of an answer, but I can ask. Anything. "Are you going to France to watch the Euros? ","What are you doing for your summer holidays?", "What do you think of Duchatelet? ". Absolutely anything.
On top of that, my selected entertainer kept my pint glass topped up. (God bless him!) AND I've had some nosh and a cup of tea on top!
Sounds like damned good value for £37 to me...
And as a final point. For those who went to the Leeds game the day before. Including travel, how much change did you get out of £37? Was it enough for a few beers, a 2 course meal, and a cup of tea? And that was to watch 28 men kick an inflated pig's bladder about, from a distance of up to 100 yards...11 -

No surprises that many of the players didn't know what was happening to them but the general feeling was a lot would move on.
Clearly a big rift between the senior management and the players, but again no real surprise.

Searching people's bags before going in for a meal ffs! I think I'd have been very unhappy about being treated like that at what is effectively nothing to do with them. As this was not a club event did they even have the authority to do that?rikofold said:

I used to attend these events with several friends, girlfriends and wives etc but I have refused the last few years on the back of kids being allowed. maybe I'm speaking out of turn but should this not be an adult only event. If it was anything like years before it actually looks very similar to the kids Xmas party!! Too many autograph hunters. How about making it adults only and making it a smart event with a dress code etc4

Not so sure it was a goodbye speech from Riga. When I spoke to him he said he wanted to stay but that he would not be told what to do and if they couldn't agree on that then he would leave.
I guess he probably knows RD quite well though so maybe it was a goodbye speech after all.

Unless Riga is lying, this pretty much dispels the myth that he is just another regime puppet. The thing about Henderson is he is a really genuine guy and loves the club and is a great ambassador. He bought every supporter on his table a drink. When I was talking to him you could sense the bitterness under it all."

It was a very good evening that I would recommend. It was definitely a bit flatter than usual, with approximately half as many attendees.
Ian Wallis was the MC and presented the awards professionally . (Ian & Jean (Fanny) are the organisers).
I went mainly to support them for their hard, unpaid efforts in organising a fans "do", which Meire attempted to change the format, presumably because she didn't want as many supporters there. She wanted to include the community trust and also told us the players weren't happy attending on certain days, which I believe to be another lie.
The Chairman & CEO would normally be on the top table of course, with the manager & the likes of Keith Peacock. However, this time Meire & Keohone were on a "standard" table like the rest of us. A staff table.
Richard Murray did not attend (the first time since I've been going).
Meire was flanked by her usual "minder" and there were always a number of heavies, within spitting distance, continually surveying the attendees.
It made for a unique atmosphere (weird), but it worked, because it meant she didn't speak and attracted less attention.
Meire was wearing a bright pink (look at me) dress, was smiling and appeared very happy all night, apart from when Riga gave his speech, when she looked quite cross.
It sounded like a goodbye speech to me from Riga. He got quite emotional, in the Chrissy Powell mode.
He gave a heart felt thanks to everyone, apart from the regime.
One of the foreign speaking players, asked me what the protests were about as he was unaware.
A few (5 max) fans unbelieveably, had photos taken with Meire and asked for her autograph.
Once again, showing that RD's plan of appointing an attractive woman, is a wonderful shield for him.
The players were great, it was a good night and I think Jean & Ian did a marvellous job under extremely difficult circumstances.
The regime will not drive me away from Charlton under any circumstances.

Riga gave a speech that sounded very much like a goodbye, and managed to thank everyone except the regime.
