    Did anyone confront Katrien?

Please tell me she didn't leave the event without getting an earful from someone.

Yes, at least one person I know of. She was, however, flanked by 3 heavies for most of the evening.

They were also searching bags as people went in.
David Badjumper was never more than 3-ft away from her all evening although I suspect this is because if he was any further away then his response time would be somewhat compromised...
Can't believe people were actually having their pictures taken with her, how very unique.

Agree with previous posts Riga's speech was a goodbye speech.

No surprises that many of the players didn't know what was happening to them but the general feeling was a lot would move on.

Clearly a big rift between the senior management and the players, but again no real surprise.

All in all a well run supporters evening, well done Jean and Ian.

You are joking right? If not, then whoever has had a picture taken with her needs to have a serious word with themself.
No joke promise it's true. One guy I recognised and know where he sits !!!
He should be ashamed of himself. Some people seriously haven't got a clue.
The cult of celebrity - the kind of numbskulls who would have their picture taken with Peter Sutcliffe if they could.
I'm not usually shocked at things, but was genuinely taken aback when I read that people were having pictures taken. And autographs as well. Wouldn't at all surprise me if the people in question are wearing black and white scarves on Saturday.

Somebody should have drafted a letter of resignation and got her to sign on the dotted line.

It was a very good evening that I would recommend. It was definitely a bit flatter than usual, with approximately half as many attendees.

Ian Wallis was the MC and presented the awards professionally . (Ian & Jean (Fanny) are the organisers).

I went mainly to support them for their hard, unpaid efforts in organising a fans "do", which Meire attempted to change the format, presumably because she didn't want as many supporters there. She wanted to include the community trust and also told us the players weren't happy attending on certain days, which I believe to be another lie.

The Chairman & CEO would normally be on the top table of course, with the manager & the likes of Keith Peacock. However, this time Meire & Keohone were on a "standard" table like the rest of us. A staff table.
Richard Murray did not attend (the first time since I've been going).

Meire was flanked by her usual "minder" and there were always a number of heavies, within spitting distance, continually surveying the attendees.

It made for a unique atmosphere (weird), but it worked, because it meant she didn't speak and attracted less attention.

Meire was smiling and appeared very happy all night, apart from when Riga gave his speech, when she looked quite cross.

It sounded like a goodbye speech to me from Riga. He got quite emotional, in the Chrissy Powell mode.

He gave a heart felt thanks to everyone, apart from the regime.

One of the foreign speaking players, asked me what the protests were about as he was unaware.

A few fans unbelieveably, had photos taken with Meire and asked for her autograph.

Once again, showing that RD's plan of appointing an attractive woman, is a wonderful shield for him.

The players were great, it was a good night and I think Jean & Ian did a marvellous job under extremely difficult circumstances.

The regime will not drive me away from Charlton under any circumstances.

Any player that isn't aware what the protests are about is either Roly and Katriens love child, a liar or thick. Probably all 3.

Well, there you go then. When you've got morons like these people queuing up to have their picture taken with KM and not queing up to slap her then it tells you just what sort of fan will generally attend this event.

Not knocking them, but I guess they're just "nice" people who don't like to cause a fuss and are happy to shell out £37 for a dry carvery meal with a load of overpaid underperforming "heroes" of theirs.

Much more important that they have a good time. Best not share any conversations with players either. Not the done thing.

    Not for me.

Or speak very little English, don't chat much to the English speaking players, because of the language barrier and turn up for training and go home afterwards ?

I don't disagree, but we are talking about approximately 5 people out of 200.

The German Addicks are interseted in joining next years event. This year we missed it, because we expected it to be next Sunday. When will the POTY Dinner be scheduled for next year?

It always take place around the same time each year and tickets generally go on sale around March.

The details are posted on the official site around that time.

I used to attend these events with several friends, girlfriends and wives etc but I have refused the last few years on the back of kids being allowed. maybe I'm speaking out of turn but should this not be an adult only event. If it was anything like years before it actually looks very similar to the kids Xmas party!! Too many autograph hunters. How about making it adults only and making it a smart event with a dress code etc

You must be an Arab or a Mormon to have wives and girlfriends, expensive night out though.

I loved the old POTY pre premiership days when it was in a pub, no dinner just beers with the players - some cracking nights back then.

Times obviously change, it's a lot more organized(and well done) now, but those unguarded days where more my scene.

Well done to those who work very hard organizing.

KM went in the hope of getting abused so that she could play the victim card again.

Not forgetting they can't have been involved in a first team at the valley this year. I know Motta was said to be unaware of the reasons behind the protests up until a few weeks ago.
  • The player on my table, when asked, wasn't aware of our rivalry with Millwall and Palace.

While not dirt / gossip it still highlights a basic all players should be made aware of when they join.

    Solly?

Many players are quite blinkered to the outside world, so a lot of them have little awareness of what's going on outside of their playing bubble.

Managers too, I remember Michael Appleton going to manage Portsmouth, despite the off the field issues that were dragging the club down, then leaving them to join Blackpool who were almost as bad! He only then realised what a basket case the club was, and left to join Blackburn...

Had a little offline chat with a friend who was there, this was their take on things:

"Katrien made it all very much about her. Stand out dress, there with a big 'you won't break me' attitude. She was on a table with club stuff, Chris and Sue Parkes and a Community Trust representative. At all times other than a meal she had a trio of bodyguards communicating via earpieces forming a protective triangle around, each five yards apart from her.

However, in there approach to scanning the area it just looked like they were staring everyone out constantly. Created a ridiculous backdrop for such an event. Anytime someone looked like they were going to approach her, they would start moving in. Quite hilarious as they were just about to pounce on someone who only went to shake Chris Parkes hand.

One person did get to thank her for ruining the club, but there was just no opportunity whatsoever from anyone to get to her, and nor did it feel particularly appropriate at the time given the protective barrier. It was probably what she wanted as she manages to manipulate and control situations.

It was clear though that no one wanted her there and you could see when she was leaving flanked by her heavies that people chose to simply turn their backs to her and not give her the satisfaction.

As for the people having photos taken, from what I saw I think some people may be mistaking her having their photo taken with some staff, Steve Avery etc. I only saw one fan all night able to approach her, a little old man that wanted her to sign a shirt. That was the only time all evening i saw a fan approach her.

most people were there in support for the organisers, but in hindsight it was good that it went ahead as it does give the fans and players an opportunity to interact. It's just a shame she came to make the night selfishly about her."

I agree, except I think I was watching Meire more than you're friend was & I know the difference between Meire & Steve Avery
