Is it ironic that Iceland play Hungary on Saturday... Maybe if the latter got down to the Supermarket they wouldnt be starving so much

    I'll get me coat!!

BTW, did anyone comment on Kompany's use of the word 'stoical' earlier? Good effort for a second language.

    Stoical meaning unique?

Thierry just said it was a quality ball.

Ah, Henry (according to my wife, the better looking centre of a Venn diagram of shearer and Kompany) said it was a good ball in

    Henry: 'Great delivery'
Yes he said it just as I hit post. The bastard.

To think Iceland have the population of the Borough of Lewisham with Eltham thrown in.
    Great great achievement.

    Why does everyone hate Ronaldo??

    He's absolute class

What's especially impressive about their team is that it is genuinely Icelandic - it's not full of players who've moved there or got picked because they have an Icelandic granny.

That shows how good their youth training system is - there was a good article on Football Focus about it

Ronaldo is a great great player. He also is a compete arse.

He's petulant, he's sulky, he thinks (possibly justifiably) he's the bees knees but he shows his thoughts on how great he is every moment he is on the pitch. He's like the best foot ally spoiled toddler ever.

That's why I hate him. Grow up sunshine.

C.Ronaldo: "They (#isl) celebrated like they had won the Euro cup or something. That's a small mentality. That's why they'll do nothing."

Wanker. That's a country of 300,000 people he's talking about.

I've seen this quote on Twitter. Doesn't look good but did he actually say it? It's not been made up by a Forest Echo reporter has it?

I'd like to say I've checked it out, but I saw it on twitter and hit 'copy'.

I don't really care whether he said it or not, the fact they drew, his overall sulky demeanour and he didn't score is enough to make my day.

When my son wakes up after only seeing the first half we will be watching JBG's assist quite a few times on replay.

Went mental for JBG's ball in. He was largely quiet, to be fair Iceland were largely quiet going forward, but it was such a great spot and cross.

I've only skimmed parts of this so I apologize if this has already been posted, but great article by Barney Ronay on Iceland's improvement of football infrastructure.

He's called 'Berg' because you only ever see 10% of what he can do

Just heard his post-match interview on R4: he said it.Maybe he's right and Iceland will do nothing, much like his own country have done throughout their history.

Quote is on the BBC now.

What an absolute arsehole... Iceland know they're not going to go massively far in the Tournament and with such a small population it would have been getting anything in their first competition that they were celebrating last night.

He says they should have attacked more and shouldnt have just defended, defended, defended but how about you look at it properly you prick... Portugal took the lead, had they DEFENDED properly they'd have one so if you want to have a bitch and moan, look at your own team mates first!!

No one ever question Ronaldo's "I take all the free kicks" tactic.
I know he is good and may as good as Ronaldo thinks Ronaldo is but I can remember the tactic the last WC or EC. It don't work.

Bizarre comment by Ronaldo. If Real Madrid drew some much smaller club in the Spanish Club, and this club held them to a draw, they'd be going crazy at the final whistle as well, surely he understands that.

I forgot to add, would he have said the same thing about Italy who celebrated in a similar way?

I believe it's similar to Rob Lee dropping the "ert" from his first name when he left us
  • Maybe he should have finished one of his 3 decent chances then he wouldn't have been moaning in the first place.
He probably would have said the same thing about Greece in 2004
