We need a spinner like Rashid who is capable of taking wickets. My eleven for the next test.
Cook, Hales, Root, Vince, Bairstow, Stokes, Woakes, Rashid, Broad, Ball Anderson

Northeast for vince but it won't happen.

I'd rather have Ballance than Vince.

Unlucky Gary Ballance - thought he was the only batsman so far to play with any application and nous- got beat by huge turn and footmarks.
Those people slagging him off in his first Test match back should be ashamed of themselves.

    More than that

What does Ali offer. That was reckless as were root, hales and Vince. If England batted properly, they could have won this

All touring sides come to Lords, raise their game by 10 per cent and win - look at Australia last year - they battered us there.

Why should i be ashamed of myself? I don't rate him, i never have. I said at the beginning that we would struggle against their attack and so it has proved. I said Ballance would not get a 50 and i was right.

This afternoon session is a replica of yesterday's afternoon session.

The bowlers are all over the batsman, but are having no luck in getting them out.

I've a horrible feeling it will be one out all out, but live in hope.

Woakes given out lbw to Yasir Shah but overturned on review. It hit the bat before the pad.

ENG 186-6, require 97 runs to win.

    Bairstow 48 from 135
    Woakes 15 from 83

Tense but is this an advert for test cricket or not for the non-aficionados? About 15 runs in 11 overs? And looks like (just) falling short of there being a result tonight. Gripping in one sense but just, well, weird in another.
  • Great test match this. Really enjoying the tactical aspect of it.

Over turned. Not out. The tiniest inside edge. And later shown to be pitching outside leg stump. Was not out on two counts.

All a bit premature ejaculation. Was hoping for a lot closer finish than that.

Well I said before start of play Pakistan would win by 50. So a 75 run win wasn't unexpected.

Typical that Amir took the winning wicket.

A really interesting day's play, but the England top order really let the team down (other than Cook) with the shots they played

Whereas England's bowling strength is with the new ball, Pakistan's is with the older ball, combining reverse swing with the wrist spinner. It became incredibly hard for the lower order batsmen, but Bairstow and Woakes knuckled down, as did Ballance.

A great atmosphere for Lord's as well, with lots of Pakistan supporters there.

With Jimmy and Stokes due to come back for next Test, and also that its at Old Trafford - so bound to be pissing down for 3 of the 5 days, we need to replace Ball and Ali and play 5 seamers. If we dont have any good spinners then whats the point of playing any - especially a sub-standard one who clearly has lost the plot whilst batting. It seems that Woakes is here to stay now (very impressed as much with his batting as bowling - a real all-rounder now).
    So, team should be...
    Cook
    Hales
    Root
    Vince
    Ballance
    Bairstow
    Stokes
    Woakes
    Broad
    Finn
    Jimmy
