Wasn't sure which cricket thread to post this is, but it's interesting to see the arguments going on about Bairstow being prevented from playing for Yorkshire this week in a crucial match, bearing in mind he's hardly played in the last month and isn't on a full central contract.
Typically Bairstow WAS allowed to play in the 50 over match against Kent though. Slightly awkward that Andrew Strauss has stopped him playing against Middlesex (his former county) and rivals for the CC
And Rashid, who has been allowed to play, is refusing to do so because he's tired. I don't think Yorkshire are very amused.
Whereas Surrey had 11 batsmen more than capable of setting a target of less than 140- going from 99-2 off 25 to 136 all out with 10 overs still to spare takes some doing.

Curious situation . Can you imagine Sam Allardyce turning round to Chelsea,Arsenal and Manu telling them their English players aren't to play.

If England were paying 80% of their wages then yes

But thats the point - Bairstow doesn't have a central contract.

Bairstow isn't on a Central contract
As Yorkshire say in their statement "Bairstow has played five days of cricket in five weeks since the Kia Oval Test match, which finished on Sunday August 14" so he doesn't sound overworked.
I saw this list of the financial details, players on central contracts get £700,000 which is a decent sum, but the players reflect the England squads a year ago, so include the likes of Ian Bell. Not sure why Morgan needs to be on a Central Contract for the small number of white ball internationals we play, he hardly needs protecting from over work!

Shows the disparity between those on Central Contracts and County. What would a decent county player be on? £50,000? I know that the starting point for a first county contract is in the region of £18,000 which is why so many good players follow alternative sports or even careers.
Of course those Central Contracts expire on 30th September. Presumably Bairstow has been told he will get one of the new ones. In addition, is it possible that Rashid has been offered one too hence his reluctance, in case he gets injured a la Ansari, to play in the county finale?
So, in addition to Bell, presumably Morgan, with his decision not to go to Bangladesh, might now lose his and possibly Finn too. In which case this would be the 11:
Cook Root Anderson Broad Bairstow - new Wood Ali Woakes - new Stokes Buttler Rashid - new

I'm not sure why Morgan deserves one anyway. He's a basically a specialist white ball batsman, so hardly plays in the county championship and gets plenty of rest time anyway. Plus, he is able to play in the IPL. He should surely have a incremental contract with a bonus for being England's white ball captain. Ditto a white ball specialist like Buttler.
I wonder if it would be fairer to reduce the number of people on full central contracts, but have a 30% category for white ball players and fringe Test players

asked to be rested - saw Gales tweet along lines of 'we will pick 11 players who want to be there'
Amusing to see that well known dasher Jonathan Trott get MOM on Saturday with 82no at a healthy pace.
