I think you have to take the fact that Port Vale were terrible into account. We might not have missed him at home to them but we may well miss him against Bradford, Sheff Utd and some of the better sides.

"Warranted" can be a matter of opinion, and the only one that counts it that of the referee.
There is retrospective punishment, when the referee has not seen the incident.
"Countenance" is absolutely nothing to do with the referee. It's the FA, having consulted other bodies such as the clubs, LMA, that determine reviews.

Haven't seen him play live yet, but from highlights and commentary he's struck me as the closest we have come to Andy Reid since he left - an attacking creative player who is not unwilling to help out the defence behind him, but comes alive when we have the ball and wants it all the time and when he has it wants to make things happen. Doesn't seem to overdo it often either - so many skillful players fall into the trap of wanting one more step over or to beat one more player, Ricky seems, from a far at least, to use his skill efficiently - beat the man as quickly as possible and as soon as a better placed teammate is available or shooting opportunity presents itself let the ball go.

1) Do not invoke the name of the Irish Maradona unless it's fully warranted
2) I think Reid had a far better range of passing than Holmes, and looked to exploit that. I think Holmes is a more natural winger, whereas by the time he got to us Reid was more of a creator (and scored some banging goals as well).

I miss him. I have a build similar to his and always felt bad that people called him fat. Sometimes he was, but when you have that stocky build and Neanderthal chest (as I do) you always look fat!

I think this is a good point and one KR made is relation to Lookman in his post Southend interview. Referees at this level have to do their jobs better - they really do. It isn't Sunday league and if you can't set out to injure a player in the Premiership - which you can't - you shouldn't ref League One any differently. I think too many of our refs are a complete disgrace. I think this applies to the Championship too - I recall Plymouth trying to assault Todorov a few years back and the ref could have prevented the serious injury he sadly recieved in that game had he seen it. It was pretty obvious from the off. I don't think he even punished the defender for what was effectively an assault.

I think it holds our football back. I want our games reffed the same as they are abroad. We need players to be able to develop in the lower leagues if we want success for this country.
