Best XI Roland Signings

I hate the regime but.... Rules are the player must have been signed either on loan or purchased by Roly, no players already on the books including youth team that have been promoted.

Mate, there's only 56 in total. It's only uncountable if there's less than three good players and you can't manage without using your fingers and your toes. Just say numerous, that'd do.

There's certainly at least twototal shore players for every half decent player. And that's even counting bikey as a half decent player

That's incredible. By my count that's 18 of 56 still with the club (excluding those out on loan and including Kashi), and 13 of which were signed for this season. A horrendous report on the club's transfer business under Duchatalet's short tenure.

And we bloody signed Roger Johnson twice.

I've basically gone through it and highlighted who I think had/has been good, taking into account length of time they've been here/played. I left out the last 4 as they are new arrivals.

With players like Vetokele being a no, it doesn't mean I don't think they're a good player, it's more have we had good value over the life of that player's contract. One half a season is nowhere enough. I know he got injured, but if it had been handled the right way then he would be an option for us this season. These are simply my metrics, but in total that's 32 no's and 20 yes'

The amazing thing about Callum's list is the sheer number of players who I can remember very little about. I was a season ticket holder up until this summer, so I really ought to know about the majority of them. But for many, the fleeting nature of their appearances combined with a keen inbuilt psychological defence mechanism means that all I have is a vague recollection that, 'that name sounds a bit familiar'.

I honestly reckon Fanni was probably the best of the bunch, him or Johann.

Perhaps some might disagree with one or two but that's not the point. What becomes strikingly obvious from the list in this format, is the all the "no"s from 28-36 inclusive.

And then all of the "yes"s from 37 on.

    What changed?

Quite simply Riga returned and his initial comments featured this understatement "we need to make less mistakes when signing players"

Between Riga and Slade they stabilised things and we now have Robinson making a few changes.

The last six games are unbeaten and we are on two points a game with Magennis back soon. Let's not kid ourselves about how this season might end but it does appear that we have followed Riga's advice. And that's before we assess the final four on the list, three of whom have great promise.

Let's see what the squad looks like in August.

Let's see what the squad looks like in August.
I truly believe it will be lop sided and mal nourished

I think RD's will to put anything substantial in this summer will be minimal

28 of the 56 played 20 or fewer games, with 11 playing 5 or less. Of the 56 players, only JBG, Yoni Buyens and Igor have so far got into double figures with goals.
  • Rudd, Fanni, Tex, Bauer, TBH, JBG, Buyens, Coq, Bulot, Ajdarevic, Vetokele

I'd buy this - and the subs would be: Henderson, Suk-Young, Pearce, Ajdareic, Diarra, Ghoochannejhad and Watt
  • Rudd, Fanni, Tex, Bauer, TBH, JBG, Buyens, Coq, Bulot, Ajdarevic, Vetokele

I'd buy this - and the subs would be: Henderson, Suk-Young, Pearce, Ajdareic, Diarra, Ghoochannejhad and Watt
Ah..........delete Ajdarevis from the subs and replace with Holmes :-)

56 new players in 3 years. Blimey: bit different from the time we'd have 3-4 per season at best.

That list reads like Headstones in the cementary that is Charlton Athletic football club.

So depressing, bad results are no problem, but this complete lack of respect from some fucking scum bag just makes my blood boil, how much more can we suffer?

I've basically gone through it and highlighted who I think had/has been good, taking into account length of time they've been here/played. I left out the last 4 as they are new arrivals.

With players like Vetokele being a no, it doesn't mean I don't think they're a good player, it's more have we had good value over the life of that player's contract. One half a season is nowhere enough. I know he got injured, but if it had been handled the right way then he would be an option for us this season. These are simply my metrics, but in total that's 32 no's and 20 yes'

What are you hoping/expecting to be different? Under RD it has always been the same - some good individuals, 1 or 2 players short and a feeling that there are too many young and inexperienced players.

It's always about hope rather than expectation that it'll all come together.
