Their firm are VERY active at the moment, 3000 jakcs on a sunny day out in the smoke, highest league played in for a number of years, no doubt it will be a cracking atmosphere, but dont underestimate the potential for one minute, either at the Valley or the trains down from London Bridge etc.0 -

i work in swansea at least 1 day a week and its very grim, cant wait to share my train up from cardiff with a few hundred jacks, still 1 of best mates is ajack and im coming up with him, our first defeat of the season? there fans are just as bad as cardiff.0

I'll shall be giving this a miss with my daughter after what happened last season at the top of floyd road after the Cardiff game, she was really scared & upset.
Will resume home & away games after,but will also give Southampton away a miss as well.0 -
There is absolutely no reason for anyone to not bring their kids to a match and its the scaremongering like seen above that helps encourage that.
There is only ever a tiny percentage people would get caught up in any bother at a game at The Valley, and if you were determined to avoid that tiny percentage, simply stay in your seat for five mins after the final whistle, or exit the area in any direction over than the bottleneck back up to the station.

With respect AFKA, its not scaremongering, nobody is trying to talk it up, its being realistic, they do have one of the biggest hooligan followings in the country, its a massive day for them, they have sold out, trip to London, sunny weather, it all adds up, you cant bury your head in the sand and say just dont get caught up in it, people have to be made aware, I'd rather a parent read it on here so they had awareness of the potential for trouble.
We all hope it doesnt come to that, but talk to the police and the right people at the club, guaranteed high category game.0 -
don't know why the police don't keep these sort of clubs back for 15 minutes after the game to give people a chance to clear the area a bit. That bottleneck causes all sorts of problems. They don't mind telling us how to segregate the ground yet aren't prepared to do something sensible like this.0

I dont think its scaremongering Dan, but appreciate your concerns. For games like this I avoid coming in from the Floyd Road direction and of course youre absolutely right that it can often be avoided, but those coming by train are the ones who dont really have any option.....I remember years ago at the Valley getting caught up in some bother (vs Millwall) with my son who was about ten at the time, and whilst Im big enough and ugly enough to look after myself, I did fear for my lad and he was quite scared about what he saw....and potentially it can then have an impact longer term on kids wanting to attend games. Just an opinion mate, not here to stir things up as you know.0

I think the Southampton incident in the Lib club last year has affected people's thoughts regarding things like this a lot. Hopefully a one off but it highlighted that trouble can rear its ugly head in places you would not expect it.0

Charlton Athletic have confirmed that they will be sending the Swans an extra 225 tickets for the opening Coca-Cola Championship clash on August 9.
The tickets will be for seats that have view restrictions and have been priced at £28 (Adults), £18 (between 18 and 21 year old and over 60's) and £8 (Under-18's).
So how many will that be?

I have to agree with DA9 mate.
My little girl is a s/t holder now and only being 7 years old I don't want her to see the ugly side of football!
It just so happens I know what team is likley to bring down what! and I will take other routes in and out of SE7 to avoid it ,BUT for the people who might not know of the active hooligan followings that might visit the Valley I think they should be given the heads up!
Can I also say out of the 23 teams to visit us this season you would be able to count on one hand the teams that might bring down a active following!0 -
Probably still in the South Stand mate...they normally sell the extra 250 or so when its in demand, I dont think the club would be silly enough to sell to away fans in any home area.0

I saw this on a Swans site that had picked up on this thread (as an aside, if there are any Swansea reading, it would be interesting to hear your expectations for the season etc):
I find it an extremely sad situation that some supporters from Charlton are deciding not to take their kids to this game and some of them are questioning whether to go at all, on the actions of a mindless small minority that although have not gone are far more controlled than they have ever been before.
Maybe I am in a minority but I like other supporters of clubs to discuss our football team and the way in which we play, the boards of other teams last season when we were storming through the league filled me with pride and excitement when they were fearing us for the football they knew they were going to be subjected to.
If any Charlton supporters come onto here and read this feel free to cut and paste this onto their boards; Yes we have had our idiots and probably still do but they are nowhere near as prominant as they were and are no larger than in any other club. I have NO fear in taking my 7 year old away with us and have seen agro at games diminish season by season. There have been flashpoints in the past, but you can enjoy your day take your kids and sample the extremely good banter that we will provide. We are certainly not quiet away from home.
If its a full house then what a start to both our seasons.0
