With a nod to the events in Manchester

Two versions of the same song. Listen to both without prejudice and say which you prefer and why.

No other versions matter

Often these days upbeat electric songs are slowed down and played acoustically when covered. Here we have the opposite.

Which do you prefer; Neil Young's 1970 folk/rock or what might now be called alt. country original or St Etienne's 1991 dance cover?

St Etienne. Love that cover. I don't care much for Neil Young but don't mind this.

Can't believe the amount of St Etienne votes, (good cover though) but Neil Young wins

Neil for me, wether he wrote it for Graham Nash after the break up with Joni just adds to the magic of the song.

Saint Etienne - Foxbase Alpha was a brilliant album. Sarah Cracknell didn't sing the original version on the album for them though! Moira Campbell did.

No contest it's a beautiful song and Neil's version wins by a country mile. I also heard Nils Lofgren (Bruce Springsteen's guitarist and long time Neil Young collaborator) play a version on Radio 5 and that was exceptional but Neil's still the man.

Much respect to Neil Young but it's St Etienne for me. They take the song and make it their own, not just a copy of the original.
