Stokes ton from 77 balls. Buttler well set so hope they can tee off for the last 7 overs. 300 should be in reach

If we reach 300 we need to thank SA for their inability to catch the ball.

330-6 after our 50, Buttler eventually found a bit of form, 110 off 10 overs between Buttler and Ali (bit of Stokes), think it will be enough. England by 60 odd.

No idea how we've won that. South Africa needed a run a ball with an over and a bit left.

England win by 2 runs. Great last over bowled by Mark Wood.

Just watched the end of this on the highlights without knowing the result. They really raced through it, hard to keep up.

Same here. I had checked the score after 40 odd overs and assumed SA had won, and having just watched the highlights, was very pleasantly surprised!

One of the key moments in the game was when Morgan deliberately slowed the game down by calling for a review, and then when the review came back negative, he then had a chat with the umpire then had a chat with his bowler about field placings, all this at a time when SA were smacking the boundaries, and after that SA seemed to lose all momentum and could only get singles.
    Great piece of captaincy.

Well......if you remember they unbelievably gave Dernbach a shed load of opportunities until they saw the same light as the rest of us had many months earlier.
My guess is he'll get at least another chance or two.

He could come back strong like woakes did.

Of Morgan, he is one of the best odi captains I can remember. Glad he's sorted his own form out too.

Should bloody hope so, he's only come on the scene this year - give him a chance ffs !
Thought he bowled a good penultimate over tbh.

I was also one who wrote Woakes off, and look at him now !
I think the England batting line-up is looking tasty, there always seems to be one of them that comes off, and they certainly bat a long way (and have Bairstow in reserve, who i think is one of the best batsmen in World Cricket right now) - i suppose having 3 out and out all-rounders in Stokes,Woakes and Ali helps, and the bowling seems to be coming together too, however, i still worry about Rashid, always a minimum of one boundary ball per over.
Stokes has gone for a scan on his knee, i assume if its something that is going to stop him bowling, then he will obviously play as batsman only, leaving the bowling to Wood,Plunkett,Rashid,Ali and Woakes.

I see the Champions Trophy starts today and the final is on 18th June - all crammed into 3 weeks.
Shall we have a separate thread for Champions Trophy ?

I actually think Dernbach was harshly treated by the England set up. He was picked on the back of being one of the best limited overs bowlers in the country (still is) and his ability to bowl variations. As soon as he was in the England set up they made him turn his back on what had done him well for Surrey. He is at his best when he runs in bowls fast with maybe 1 or 2 variations an over. The England coaches told him to bowl something different every ball. As a result there was a loss of control and he got destroyed...

I am by no means suggesting he should be in the England setup now. I think that ship has sailed. But he is back for Surrey bowling how he bowls best and getting results. Still one of the best one day bowlers in the country.

I agree Canters ( i know it doesnt happen that often :) ) but thought Dernbach was good.

We're still in the warm up match stage at the moment. Effectively the England S Africa ODI series has been brought forward to act as a warm up series as well!

The tournament proper stars on the 1st June
