Opening scene was probably the best bit imo, good episode a lot of build up but that's expected the first episode of the new season.
Massive over-reaction on Ed Sheeran on here, I quite like him generally so maybe i am being a bit biased. Although i did think the camera was on him a lot and with him not really doing anything other then smiling, not a big deal though only a little cameo. That boy from This is England would be a good couple with Arya
Tried to stay up and watch it, fell asleep 2nd break as was shattered and watched the rest during the day as im off every monday.

Good episode nicely setting up the series. The Ed Sheeran It's a new one scene, oh deary me.
It has to be up there with Bodie & Doyle in an episode of Robin of Sherwood for those of you who remember their immortal line to Robin 'We're Professionals'0 -
Have read some comments by the director of the episode, he says he asked Sheeran on to the set to surprise Maisie Williams as she was a really big fan.buckshee said:
100% just to shoehorn him in , totally pointless.Clem_Snide said:Ed Sheeran left me wanting to punch the TV screen.
WTF was that all about?
I do like Ed Sheeran, but nonetheless that bit was cringey.0 -
The "restricted area" Harry Potter crossover with Jim Broadbent was a little bit cringe as well. Subtle enough not to be obvious though.0
-
It was so poorly acted as well, it was like they found all the worst actors they could to try and make Sheeran's appearance less painful and failed.1
-
The Ed Sheeran bit didn't bother me at all. He barely had any lines, most the time when he was in shot he was out of focus and the attention was on the other actors. I see nothing wrong with getting a singer to essentially play a singing part, it happens all the time.1

Williams was the only capable actor in that scene. The lad out of This Is England seems like a nice bloke, but coming out of the Shane Meadows school of acting hasn't helped him much.
Pretty sure there was no intentional reference there.WSS said:The "restricted area" Harry Potter crossover with Jim Broadbent was a little bit cringe as well. Subtle enough not to be obvious though.

I dunno seemed to me they made every effort to have him in frame as much as possible, such as sitting him right next to arya the entire time so his ugly mutt vacant smile a la that seal in finding dory made its piercing way through my tv screen.SWEnglandAddick said:The Ed Sheeran bit didn't bother me at all. I think if they made every effort to have him in frame as much as possible they would've given him all the lines instead of the other guys. They know he's not an actor so they left the majority of the acting to actors.kentaddick said:

I know, so could he reanimate as a wight at some point? Seemed to have an eye out the same side Ramsey shot Wun Wun.Dazzler21 said:

Unless it was a scene from the "future", I don't think that's possible since Wun Wun fell at Winterfell and the Walkers haven't got that far yet.North Lower Neil said:

Ed Sheeran stole the show or at least he has as far as this thread goes. Can't see what all the fuss is all about. He was on screen for about a minute and spoke one line. Did it reall annoy so many people ? I suppose it was Monday.5

Not a fan of Sheeran's guest slot but I'm pretty much over it now.0

It makes the whole thing much less immersive. I wasn't thinking about the relevance of that scene; which is setting up the direction Arya's character will take. Is she going to show herself as a ruthless psycho by killing the Lannister soldiers in their sleep or is she instead cleverer and more calculated and use this "alliance" to help get to the Cersei.ShootersHillGuru said:Ed Sheeran stole the show or at least he has as far as this thread goes. Instead I was thinking was: what the fuck is Ed Sheeran doing here? Along with: he can't bloody act a jot.2 -
I'd be disappointed if they had created such a giant plot hole.North Lower Neil said:

Wun wun was the last of the giants, which means there were other giants (remember the one that died trying to go through the wall when the wildlings attacked?). Quite feasible it's another giant that has been dead for some time north of the wall.1
-
Having done some research - It appears it is definitely not Wun Wun, however the fact the actor was credited and the fact the eye was clearly out on the same side as Wun Wun's means I think there is a chance that we are seeing a mistake of giant proportions... I really hope I'm wrong!1
-
No way would Benioff and Weiss let that mistake happen. They are detailed to the Nth degree.Dazzler21 said:Having done some research - It appears it is definitely not Wun Wun, however the fact the actor was credited and the fact the eye was clearly out on the same side as Wun Wun's means I think there is a chance that we are seeing a mistake of giant proportions... The scene had at least three giants in it.1

To use a popular term. Get over it ;0)JollyRobin said:

But it was, wasn't it? It was Bran's vision, he sees the future a lot.Callumcafc said:

Maybe then? I remember Bran showing up at the Wall early in the episode but I'd disconnected the two scenes from each other. Was obviously half asleep...North Lower Neil said:

I don't get how it would be a mistake, unless we know they burnt Wun Wun.
If it is him, it suggests the White Walkers get further south than Winterfell at some point.1 -
It would definitely be a silly mistake on Jon's part not to burn bodies having previously insisted on other bodies being burnt to avoid that same fate earlier in the series.1
-
True, and the wildlings seem to do it as a matter of course, so would seem crazy not to with the most dangerous potential wight.Callumcafc said:It would definitely be a silly mistake on Jon's part not to burn bodies having previously insisted on other bodies being burnt to avoid that same fate earlier in the series.
