Come on the Kent tonight. I see the game is starting at 7pm tonight. I believe they made it at this time due to the England match in case it went into a fifth day

Hello gentle Kent peeps, just thought i'd pop on here to see how much gloating and back-slapping was going on.

It was notable that for most of the game the Surrey thread was really active, whereas here was quiet...but then there was a reversal as the Kent innings got going
That's just because we actually have fans...
Yeah who live in London but not Surrey.
Well we're a London based team. Based shout of the river. Surely all of South London should be Surrey fans! ;)
But for some odd reason they're not!
And the reasons are.. 1) Charlton is historically in Kent. 2) Leary, Ufton & several other Charlton players also played for Kent. 3) We used to play within walking distance of The Valley (The Rectory Field was where I first saw Kent play). There's no more natural sporting connection, at least for those of us of a certain age...
Thats funny, last time i looked, Charlton was in SE London , and always has been - has it been moved?.
Dont forget, there is a Surrey connection with Charlton too, notably Micky Stweart (Alecs dad and ex England coach) played for Charlton.
Carrying on from point 1, i think you'll find that The Valley is much closer to The Oval than Canterbury,Maidstone,Tonbridge, and probably Dartford too ! It was certainly a lot easier to get to than schlepping to any of those Kent venues.
Yes it has been moved! Charlton, along with Greenwich and surrounding districts were part of Kent until 1889 when the the county of London was first formed. County cricket had its roots before that and that is why Charlton is Kent territory. This is much the same way as he Oval is probably considered Surrey territory. The Oval is hardly in Surrey today is it? You can't have it both ways!

I almost remember getting the 53 bus from Plumstead Common in 1889.

And is The Oval closer to The Valley?
I've sorta forgotten what this was all about, was it all to do with why a Charlton fan would be a Surrey fan instead of Kent ?
    Havnt i made it obvious?

Gloucs 79-3 after 12 overs, pretty slow going. Not there so can't say whether that's down to the pitch or not

Glos 122-6 with an over and a bit left. Kent doing a lot better than they were at Cheltenham last week!

Three run outs in the last over! Two for Blake and one for Denly.

138-9 for Glos. Kent need 139 to win.

I hear Denly is signing for Surrey, along with Dynamite Darren.
Its got to be better than playing for Millwall, Kent.
