So there never was a decent budget for this summer, was there?
Robinson after getting Tex off the wage bill: "We need to do one or two more things before we can then start doing more business. Now I’ve got a bit more flexibility but I can’t be too eager."
So it was all rubbish really, wasn't it?

Something changed last few weeks it appears, I dont want to get to excited but starting to hope its a sign of preparing for a sale at some point this year.6

Billy Clarke is the only fee we've played for a player isnt he?
Both Tarieq Fosu and Mark Marshall rejected new deals if I'm correct?0 -
Fosu was compensation so imagine a small fee.ForeverAddickted said:Billy Clarke is the only fee we've played for a player isnt he?

I don't remember anyone from the club publicly stating that the Lookman money would be invested this summer.
I've read a few people on here demanding it, and speculating that it might happen, but I never thought that Robinson was going to have anything like that kind of money to spend.3 -
Did the new contracts given to Pearce and Holmes eat into the manager's budget this summer?0
-
You see this is where the language barrier causes problems, Roland told Gobinson that he would be getting a decent size budgie this summer!2

Is it the wage bill that is the problem, and not the budget for transfer fees?
We needed them off the wage bill to comply with financial fair play if we brought new signings in?2 -

Nope, not according to the club - http://www.castrust.org/2017/07/david-joyes-salary-cap-protocol-not-a-problem/Ross said:Is it the wage bill that is the problem, and not the budget for transfer fees?

At the Fans Forum meeting on 23rd June Chief Finance officer David Joyes made it clear that the salary cap management protocol (whereby player costs must not exceed 60% of turnover) will not be a problem this season for Charlton Athletic.3 -
Complying with FFP is really pissing me off at the moment... FIFA / UEFA might as well scrap the whole thing now, nothing was done with Queens Park Rangers a few years ago and I doubt they'll do anything if PSG sign Neymar for £195m!!Ross said:Is it the wage bill that is the problem, and not the budget for transfer fees?

Proof it was only ever there to protect the mega rich clubs and ensure they werent knocked off their perch by other versions of PSG and Manchester City being started up!!5 -
FFP not a problem. I believe Meire confirmed this at the last fans forum.Ross said:Is it the wage bill that is the problem, and not the budget for transfer fees?

Same shit, different season, different puppet.16

Did anyone really believe there would be any real investment in the squad this year? Lies, lies and more lies!8

Heard this recently, think it works here - Same shit burger, different bun.3

I think Gobbo said that the Lookman cash would be spent on Sparrows Lane. Something that would last for next 50 years.
Possibly my dreams, left in the bottom of one of those trenches.

The Lookman money was needed to help offset the massive operating loss in 2015/16 - or if you prefer to cover the heavy operating loss in 2016/17. For a similar reason coming down the track in 2017/18 they will sell Konsa if they can, assuming they are still here.2

Which also proves that there was never a sufficient budget in place to complete the training ground development either. Just hoping for a windfall player sale to get it done.HarryLime said:I think Gobbo said that the Lookman cash would be spent on Sparrows Lane. Something that would last for next 50 years.

I think there are two aspects here;
1. Salaries, which from the comment from Robinson needed to be reduced before he could outlay anymore. That MUST be internal management as pointed out the club have said the FFP is not an issue
2. Transfer budget. I never expected much of one and not sure if any specifics have ever been stated other than previously we've heard 'top 6 budget' which frankly could mean anything.
As Airman has pointed out, each year there are enevitable operating losses either through poor management and/or the fact in league 1 we will always make a loss (and championship or league 2 come to that).
Frankly I still don't believe the owner and his appointed senior management have enough nous to properly run a football club. Things may have improved but they got to a low point so difficult not to improve. But as we all know, P1ss off 80% of your customer base (and I include corporate sponsors in that) and any business is doomed to fail.14 -
Did anyone seriously expect that the Lookman money or even a chunk of it was being held back for the summer? If it had been available in January, KR would have spent it, after all he effectively had to loan out Ajose to pay for the Mavididi loanAFKABartram said:Talk of the Lookman money being held back for the summer etc..

I think we've got 3 players who would walk into any team in this division; Pearce, Josh and Holmes. Not including Marshall in that because I have never actually seen him play.
We've got plenty of wild cards such as, Kashi. A player who should be class above this decision but is coming back from being crocked.
Watt and Novak should be amongst the better players in this division but don't appear to be doing the job for us.
Plus we've got plenty of young players who need to show they are capable of competiting a 46 games season; Konsa, Aribo and JFC.
We should be challenging for the top 6. However can't see us getting anywhere near the top 2.1 -
I'm sure we have one of the biggest wage bills in Division 1 , just a lot of it goes on over paid legacy players that we can't offload1
-
Can't see how we can complain about a small player budget, whilst still advocating a season ticket boycott, we cant expect to have it both ways.0
-
If we don't bring anyone in than I would have preferred to keep Tex and Ceballos.
That is all.1 -
Timely interview with Tubby McScouser. Call me cynical but the bit I've highlighted sounds like chapter 1 of the fairytale entitled "Why we didn't sign any players even though we're really ambitious, going for promotion and told you that we've learned from our mistakes".
I hate him. I hate him for being an obnoxious pain in the arse, and I hate him for clearly signing up to a deal whereby he uses his interviews to make excuses for the owner's lack of ambition.
http://www.kentlive.news/i-made-some-big-mistakes-at-mk-dons-with-signings-reveals-charlton-athletic-boss-karl-robinson/story-30447738-detail/story.html
"I'll be honest with you, I made some big mistakes at MK Dons where I was so eager to bring players in so soon," admitted Robinson. "I did it one year and I didn't bring in the type of player that aided the success of the club. And I learned from that very early on. Sometimes going with what you've got and youth players are sometimes better than who you can bring in immediately.
